Senators urge Bush to act on Haditha probe
WASHINGTON - U.S. senators demanded on Tuesday that the Bush administration swiftly establish what happened in Haditha where U.S. Marines are suspected of killing 24 unarmed Iraqis.

They said only swift action could salvage the image of the military and U.S. international relations.

The Senate Armed Services Committee plans hearings soon on last November’s incident in the western Iraqi town and to determine whether the military tried to cover it up.

2. The white house and pentagon never learn the right lessons
During the revelations that American troops are responsible for atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan the pentagon and White House never seem to learn the correct lessons. As with Abu Ghraib, gitmo and all the other atrocities the officials don’t say “HMM, maybe we should train our people better and implement some sort of safe guard to prevent these things from losing us the war!” What they do say is “Well shit. How can we prevent these things from leaking out to the public?” The priorities are definitely skewed and there doesn’t seem to be anyone in DC who is willing to use any sort of common sense concerning these horrible atrocities. My country has gone insane and will not admit it and seek help try to cure itself. What a sad chapter in American history this administrations rule will prove to be.

3. Are they kidding?
> (U.S. senators) said only swift action could salvage the image of the military and U.S. international relations.

Dream on. There's nothing to "salvage." We are rightly seen around the world as modern-day jack-booted murdering thugs. "Support the troops!"

I'm afraid that the only thing that will begin to bring the world around to getting over what we've done will be something like in Italy after WW2 -- bodies swinging from lamp posts.
