Swann getting disclosure heat
By Angela Couloumbis
Inquirer Harrisburg Bureau

HARRISBURG - Since announcing a run for governor, Republican Lynn Swann has campaigned across the state as a reformer trying to knock off a career politician - Gov. Rendell - and sweep in change and accountability to the Capitol.

Yet records show that Swann is having trouble mastering some aspects of campaign-finance disclosure laws.

Earlier this month, several of his required pre-primary campaign reports were not filed with the Department of State. And those the campaign did submit during the course of the year included incomplete or unclear information in key parts.

During the two weeks before a primary election, state law requires candidates to file daily disclosures of all donations over $500. They can e-mail, fax or mail the information to the department, or submit it in person.

1. I'm waiting for Swann to implode
he has no credibility as a candidate for governor. Playing football and being a sports commentator hardly meets any qualifications needed to be a governor.

Repubs had several other candidates who were testing the waters and are much more credibile - but either they imploded or dropped out and bowed to GOP politics.

The only reason Swann is even a candidate is because of NAME RECOGNITION and the obsessive football mania in the state.

I hope Rendell challeges him to a debate. Swann can sing the party's song, but only if he has the words in front of him - there's no way he can hold his own in an open/free debate of the issues.

2. It's amazing how inarticulate he is after all these years on TV
like many GOPers he's just mouthing boilerplate talking points.

4. he doesn't have a script for politics
just for sports commentary

talking to a co-worker about Swann - co-worker asked what was wrong with Swann being governor, he's well known

me: well-known?? yeah, but so isn't Mickey Mouse and Howdy-Doody but I don't see them running for office. Don't you think Swann should have a little bit of experience before running for governor? If he's serious about politics - then he should run for some local office like mayor or dog catcher

co-worker chuckles: you have a point

6. All you needed to have said

was "Arnold Schwarzenegger."

I'd tell Lynn what I would have told Arnold: "Start small--city council, small-town mayor, congresscritter. You're rookies in the political field--LEARN the game first. WALK before you run!"

3. Where are the republicans who hate all this?
When Bob Casey was annointed as the chosen candidate in the PA senate race in a effort to avoid a nasty and divisive primary that would strengthen rick santorum's campaign, progessives had a shit fit, and two independent-minded progressives ran on their own. If either had found a deep-pocketed backer, the outcome of the primary could have been very different.

I can't believe that the hard core, "conservative" wing of the republican party, or even the rank and file party members, are too excited about lynn swann. Yes, he has name recognition, but that's literally all he has. Oh, he's bush's buddy, but that doesn't count for much these days. Where are the republican's who want to vote on their principles as opposed to following the "win at any cost" stratergery that they seem to be following? Why didn't we see a conservative challenge swann in the primary?

5. They want to try a repeat of California
PA GOP is running a well know person for governor just like CA did with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

7. I thought the disclosure were
all about the coke parties and drunken orgies that swan had back in his heyday as a football player. It was the wide open seventies I think he'd be living in fear of someone coming foreword.
