UAE still hoping for US trade deal by end 2006
http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=politicsNews&storyid=2006-05-14T172948Z_01_L14514303_RTRUKOC_0_US-TRADE-EMIRATES-USA.xml&src=rss&rpc=22

ABU DHABI (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates said on Sunday it still hoped to clinch a trade deal with the United States this year and expects talks postponed in the aftermath of the Dubai Ports row to resume in the next few months.

The fifth round of trade talks had been scheduled for March, but were suddenly called off after a political storm in the United States forced state-owned Dubai Ports World to relinquish control of terminals at six major U.S. ports.

Since then, U.S. trade talks with Qatar have also run into trouble, with Doha saying it had frozen negotiations last month.

UAE and U.S. officials held technical meetings in Abu Dhabi last week but no date was set for the talks to resume.

1. "They keep waitin' for their ship to come in,
but all that ever come was the tide..." -- in Jim Croce's words.

The impression Bush administration officials left on U.S. voters was that they lied for 6 years about security and terrorism and then blithely turn around and "give control to" the United Arab Emirates.

Bush's people may yet try to slip these guys through the back door, but the more public the deal, the less likely it will be to go through.

4. I contacted my Senators and Rep re: that travesty
Fat lot of good that will do, though, considering who I have representing me in Washington (McConnell, Bunning, Northup)

8. Do tell us why they should go to Hell....
This is the sort of blind hatred and racism that I hate... I hope such attitudes are kept away from progressive sites!

Many countries around the world have been paid by the US with Bank Notes, instead of cash... These countries want to cash in the notes soon, before the dollar drops further...

Since the US doesn't have the cash, an alternative is to sell off US owned assets, airports, port, parks etc etc... It started with the UAE/port fiasco and further demands are going to increase...

11. but I do have something to say...
It's you that only typed "go to hell" ...

If it was a British or French company, would it make a difference to you?

The US cannot afford not to sell off some of its assets... How can the US expect other nations to open up and in turn the US closes its doors to investors...?!

12. So when the US threatens other countries to open up
its markets its ok but when it is the other way then its "go to hell". If this is not hypocrisy then what is it?
