Iraq veteran sees nothing positive about U.S. troops fighting there
Brian Clement of Gardiner, an Army veteran, said during a talk at the University of Southern Maine on Thursday that he started his yearlong duty in Iraq believing America hadn't gone to war for the right reasons, but "thought I could do some good."

However, Clement, who was with the 1st Cavalry Division, said that in his job driving a truck around Iraq, including such hot spots as Fallujah and Sadr City, "I didn't see anything positive about our being in Iraq."

Clement, who returned home last March and received an honorable discharge from the service in June, has since joined Iraq Veterans Against the War.

"I support the troops wholeheartedly," he said, "but I don't support the misuse of our armed forces as they are being used now."

2. I object to the exploitation of our armed forces by this greedy cabal.
The lies, the profiteering, the crimes, the activities anti-thetical to our values and Constitution; the abusive exploitation of our people and our soldiers and our resources/treasure make me ill. I am tired of calling and writing and protesting because its like pounding the sand without a courageous and VISIBLY VOCAL opposition. My nation has been stolen from me. I have no country, now,...it is owned by corporacrats.

3. Another similarity to Vietnam. That war gained nothing for anyone

except maybe the defense industry. Iraq has the same result, no winners except financial.

7. Another Useless War
I'm a Navy vet from those same years, 68-72, and I agree with you. I keep getting that feeling that so many military enlisted had back then: what a frikkin' waste.
Just as Johnson lied to expand Viet Nam involvement, the bushites lied to us in order to invade Iraq. The thing that really gets to me, besides the wrecking of our military, our global reputation, and the lives lost and destroyed, is bush's new ( for the U.S. ) doctrine of "justifiable pre-emptive war".
That is not what our country is all about.
I did not enlist and do my duty to see my country break international law(s), and spy on its own citizens without a warrant. Most of us enlist to preserve our freedoms and liberties, as corny as that sounds. What the hell is happening to our country, that our sheep-like citizens, and media, have essentially allowed this immoral and un-American behavior by our so-called commander in chief? I keep waiting for the people to rise up, to say "enough, george jr." - this is not what we stand for as Americans! Still waiting.

8. Yep, agree. Been thinking about it more lately. This war that
seems so damned important right now, I imagine looking back at in 30 years (if i'm around at all!)and feel that it be as important as the Viet Nam conflict is now.....none, zip. End result, thousands dead and injured on both sides for nothing. Not much to get all star spangled about.

You on a ship?
