Midway runway no place for walk
Officials not sure how man managed to get past security

By Gary Washburn and Dave Wischnowsky
Tribune staff reporters
Published March 8, 2006

A neighborhood man who later told police he had been drinking breached security at Midway Airport, apparently walking off the street, through a checkpoint and onto the airfield, officials acknowledged Tuesday.

A portion of the airfield was shut down during the incident Sunday, and a plane approaching for landing was ordered to go around after the intruder was spotted by a pilot on the ground, said Wendy Abrams, a spokeswoman for the city's Aviation Department.

The man was on the field for about six minutes before being apprehended, Abrams said. Officials said he was tearing off his clothes.

And here I thought we were safer under the GOP all branches of government control. Where's Tom Ridge when you need him?!?! :sarcasm:

3. Maybe MK-Ultra is back in business?
I kid of course. What boggles my mind is how paper thin our airport security still is after all this time. I can't believe that the pilot in the plane noticed the guy and had to call it in! The freaking pilot!!! :wtf:

4. I was just there on Monday!!
I didn't hear a thing about it while at the airport. But I will tell you something, it was buttass cold out there and snowing. So if that guy was tearing off his clothes in that weather, that's pretty impressive, drunk or not.

5. I think the larger issue here is:
How is it that a drunken lout able to thwart our airport security, run by the TSA and HSA under GOP, 'tough on terrorism' control'!!!

Face it folks we aren't safer now, and we've never been. I know most here are aware of that, but here's yet more evidence to back that claim.
