Jets were scrambled. Plane didn't have transponder activated. Private plane and they ended up following orders once they were contacted. Plane is being sent to a private airport.

Now back to talking about men wearing skits (movie tie-in).

I know YOU aren't saying that this is true, but the very fact that ANYONE would believe this is just beyond me. If you were going to have the capability of scrambling jets to intercept hijacked planes, the heart of the nation's capital (DC) is the first fucking place that would have such a capability. Does anyone HONESTLY believe that the gov't would just leave the White House, Pentagon, etc. undefended for...for what reason? What a bunch of hooey.

Immediately after 9/11, the website went down. When it came back up on Sept 13, that phrase was missing.

15. Happens ALL THE TIME

You can visit PilotsForDean.com for some discussion of this very issue -- see the "TFRs" section. It's a big deal among pilots. There have been something on the order of 2,500 "incursions" into the DC/Camp David airspace.

An "incursion" is an "unauthorized" entry by an aircraft into that airspace. Each one triggers a whole sequence of costly events. All of them are (obviously) not life threatening, and almost all of them are innocent mistakes. A great deal of them are simply because the government failed to warn pilots in timely fashion that the airspace boundaries changed that day (or hour). Yet pilots risk losing their licenses. (If the Secret Service had its way, there'd be 2,500 pilots sitting in jail right now.)

Of course, the whole idea behind these airspace "boundaries" is flawed. There are no fences in the sky.

Oh, the stories I could tell about how screwed up this whole thing is. Congress is beginning to ask the same questions. Not to mention that that private airplane probably had the destructive power of a Geo Metro in a supermarket parking lot. (In other words, if it crashed, you wouldn't have any idea whether it was intentional or not. Thus it's not a very good weapon of terror. And a whole lot more difficult to use than, say, a rental truck.)

Isn't too far from the truth though. The thing that struck me about CNN's coverage of the major blasts in the Saudi capital was that they were showing all this video of absolute destruction while at the same time reporting that "there may have been Americans present." Umm...whether there were or not, it has far reaching implications for EVERYONE.
