The Department of Defense and family members have identified 387 U.S. servicemembers who died supporting U.S.-led operations in Iraq. Of these, 249 died on or after May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations there had ended.
The total of 387 includes accidental and non-combat related deaths. Other U.S. deaths have been reported but have not yet been identified.
The British government said 52 of its soldiers had died. The Danish, Polish, Spanish and Ukrainian governments each said one of their soldiers had died. <snip>

Now I remember reading an article on a non-US news
site (or a blog?) claiming that 2 (or 4?) US soldiers had been
captured in Afghanistan. I wonder if they are the MIA?

the injuries are devastating.

I was introduced to an Injured while he was in
Germany. Just from the little bit he said about his
main injury, I think he is a mess and will not be
in the military much longer.

He is back in the states now but they have shipped him
out of that hospital. Since I haven't heard from
him lately, I don't know if he has gone to another
VA setting or if they sent him home.

I can't imagine that they'd send him home because
even the Germany doctors said he needs at least
6 months of rehab, plus maybe more surgery to try
and correct the "butchery" surgery that was done
in Iraq.

i've heard that as many as 30,000 soldiers of fortune are in Iraq as well. how many are dead now? they must have the very worst, most dangerous jobs.

:wtf: I think it was CNBC, might have been CNN.

I don't get it. How does 387 turn into 269? How does 249 become 137 (the number they supposed to have died post-May 1)? I wonder if this was Baghdad-only stats. On the other hand, it could be a common lie.
