Journalist Death Toll in Iraq Exceeds That of Vietnam- RWB
Journalist death toll in Iraq exceeds that of Vietnam, Reporters Without Borders says

(Paris-AP, Jan. 4, 2006 2:59 PM) _ More journalists and media staffers have been killed during the Iraq war than during 22 years of conflict in Vietnam, Reporters Without Borders said Wednesday.
Worldwide, at least 63 journalists were killed last year, the press freedom group said in its annual report. That was up from at least 53 killed in 2004, the group said.

Earlier this week, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said 47 reporters were killed in 2005. The group said the discrepancy resulted from its standards for determining who was a journalist and whether someone died as a result of working as a reporter.

Reporters Without Borders said Iraq was the world's deadliest place for media members for the third consecutive year -- with 24 journalists and five assistants killed, the group said.
Most victims in Iraq died in insurgent and terrorist attacks, while three were killed by the U.S. military, Reporters Without Borders said.

A total of 76 journalists and media staff have been killed since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, the group said. That was more than the 63 reporters killed in the 1955-1977 conflict in Vietnam, the group said, citing figures from U.S.-based press advocacy group Freedom Forum.

1. It's not nice to write or film things which do not
reflect well on the Bush Crime Family.

2. That one attack on the journalists' hotel probably clinched this
I don't remember people covering the Viet Nam war being attacked deliberately, like they were in OIL

3. And we used to get much more news outta the war zones in Vietnam
Not happening now. Seems if someone tries to get news out, they end up getting shelled for their effort. Interesting approach. The war seems to be on truth more than anything.

Reporters need to think about any cooperation with a group who would just as soon kill them off as listen to them. MSM is in corporatist control. The reporters might wanna take the results of parroting the party line, reading press releases instead of digging and reporting truth, to its logical conclusion: If only one message is getting broadcast, MSM Corps will soon figure out they only really need one announcer to announce it. Cut costs... lay off the bulk of the work force! It's the way they increase profits. Reporters better wake up before they are extinct.

6. More reporters?
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 12:40 PM by MrPrax
There are probably way more reporters in Iraq than Vietnam--the biz is much bigger and different than 1968.

Unless there are totals overall--the figures are meaningless...could be that Vietnam was worst.

But we'll leave it to this professional lobby group, Reporters Without Borders to whine a bit about Iraq and lack of professional courtesy.

(I bet the boys and girls at RWB don't realize that their name doesn't have the same ideologically 'flow' as well as doctors without borders, do they ;-)
