(London) Tube shooting charges 'possible'
Last Updated: Friday, 9 December 2005, 15:59 GMT

Tube shooting charges 'possible'

Officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes on the Tube could face charges,
it has emerged.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it was "likely" to send its report to the
Crown Prosecution Service to consider.

The IPCC did not quiz Met Police chief Sir Ian Blair in person for its report. The Tories branded
this "inexplicable".

Mr Menezes, from Brazil, was shot dead in Stockwell in July after officers mistook him for a
suicide bomb suspect.

2. Tube shooting charges 'possible'
9 December 2005

Officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes on the Tube could face charges, it has emerged.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it was "likely" to send its report to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider.

IPCC chairman Nick Hardwick said its investigation had to decide whether its findings indicated that criminal offences may have taken place.

This was a lower threshold than for the CPS, which would then have to decide whether to bring actual charges against any of the officers involved, he said.

A spokesman for the Menezes family campaign said it was "dismayed" that the IPCC had held a media briefing.

3. "Could"? Should
It was an illegal summary execution, and very sloppy detective and law enforcement work.

5. Yes!
No one heard the word "bomb." This man died needlessly.

6. Both men died needlessly
Yet some people thinks this makes them safer. What they don't realize is that when law enforcement starts killing people in public, then lie about what happened in order to cover it up, then this can happen to anyone. Your mother, father, sister, brother. Especially if they have dark skin and hair. It is quite chilling when you realize what is going on here.
