NYT/AP: Chalabi Offers to Be Questioned by Senate
Chalabi Offers to Be Questioned by Senate
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: November 9, 2005
Filed at 7:04 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Chalabi offered Wednesday to be questioned by the Senate on his role in prewar Iraq but refused to apologize for fueling allegations that Saddam Hussein had hidden caches of weapons of mass destruction....

***

....despite Chalabi's offer to be questioned by the Senate, he has not contacted the intelligence committee to provide any information, (Senator Pat Roberts's spokeswoman Sarah Little) said....

***

At a news conference, Chalabi denied giving Iran information that compromised U.S. security.

But he said he had offered last year to be questioned, and added, ''I am prepared to go the Senate and respond to questions.''

At the same time, Chalabi refused to apologize for advising the Bush administration that Saddam had arsenals of weapons of mass destruction.

''We are sorry for every American life that was lost in Iraq,'' he said. ''As for deliberately misleading, this is an urban myth.''...

1. It's easy to be generous...
when you know you don't have to give anything away. He'll testify before the Senate when they are throwing snowballs in hell.

7. He got the talking points memo...
Where the hell would he learn the phrase "urban myth"??? His little meetings with Condi & Cheney may have been browbeatings, but they were also chockfull of talking points... Sheesh.

9. I wouldn't try to bring it up, no
I take a slightly different view than most. I'm sure Chalabi would be happy to answer questions in the Senate - it's a great publicity platform for him. The man is an excellent speaker. If you haven't heard him, just witness everything he's talked his way out of, and still wound up on top.

If he is questioned, expect it to go as well as the Galloway questioning. He'll come out smelling like a rose, and our Senate will wind up looking silly. Only this time, it'll be our side looking dumb. Just push him to the side, and ignore him.

11. Yes, Welcome To DU!
I will be very disappointed if any Dem Senators let him off the hook. If the GOP end up looking all cozy with this clown they look bad too.

21. It's not the speaking that keeps him on top...it's having hold of various
people's balls and squeezing. He knows a lot about 9-11, Iraq and the crimes of the Bush Crime Syndicate.

16. I have no idea how this might play out.
First he has to survive the travel here. Flying under these kinds of political circumstances is very hazardous.
Second, I wonder how much those who will be questioning really want to know the answers.
Is Chalabi being fattened up to be the official sacrificial goat?
I am not betting on this one.

17. You're right! This is some weird stuff going on.
I thought the White House hated Chalobby. Wasn't he the minister of Oil, for a while? And then, there was some falling out with L. Paul Bremer in Baghdad. Sheesh. I can't keep track.

And now, Cha-liar is surfacing again. I tell ya, I can't keep track of these daily developments. A soap opera on TV is easier to follow.
