Outside, governor gets chilly reception
By GREG WELTER - Staff Writer

The boisterous crowd gathered outside the Chico restaurant where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appeared Monday seemed evenly divided between protesting the man and rallying against his package of reform propositions.
Only a few appeared to be supporters of either.

The governor planned a 30-minute visit inside the Cozy Diner on Mangrove Avenue in a campaign stop that even local police didn't know about until Friday....

...When the crowd grew to nearly 300 people and became a public safety issue, several Chico officers were called to the scene. "We had to bring in a few that were off-duty," said Sgt. Dave Barrow....

...As he left the restaurant and headed for his black Ford Excursion about 20 feet away, the governor was showered with small ice cubes an unidentified protester threw from a cup. The act evoked no reaction from Schwarzenegger....

Governor encounters two very different worlds at Cozy Diner
By LARRY MITCHELL - Staff Writer

..Outside, protesters lined the sidewalk, holding up signs urging "no" votes on those four measures and some others as well...

Outside, the crowd booed Schwarzenegger as he left the restaurant. "Go home, Arnold!" protesters shouted...

..A reporter, wondering how it happened that the restaurant seemed full of Schwarzenegger supporters while all the protesters were outside, asked Muños if special measures were taken to make that happen...

..He added he figured the governor's aides told him to only approach booths where people were wearing "Arnold stickers."..

3. Interesting how there was no advance notice given - probably because
they HAD to keep it under wraps to prevent an expected large crowd from mushrooming in size - as the word got out.

With OUR candidates, you can provide as much advance notice as you like. OUR guys aren't afraid of any hecklers (of which there are usually very few anyway). OUR guys aren't afraid to throw the doors open and invite everybody whether they sign loyalty oaths or not. OUR guys get rousing welcomes inside AND outside.

But arnold needs the cover to keep the hostile masses to a minimum, doesn't he? Maybe he's just another girlie-man...

9. Fliers to protest Ahnolds visit were out by saturday morning
There were three tables at farmers market saturday, anouncements on the community radio station,(KZFR) and fliers posted downtown.

Try to sneak into MY town and not get heckled. Not a chance!!!

4. Wow.
Chico townies are very conservative, and the City of Chico recently forbade the students from voting at all. For this much animosity to be shown to the Republicanator in one of his electoral strongholds does not bode well for him.

Arnie took the proverbial wrong pill when he entered politics. As soon as the public tide against him is verified, his Republican friends will teach him what Republican Loyalty is all about -- which means A.S. will have to watch his back. Forever.

Can't say he doesn't deserve it, though. He was warned. Repeatedly.

Maybe after the next gubernatorial election, he can do another comedy movie with Sinbad. He'll certainly have enough time on his hands.

11. Interesting that local police weren't told.
Who looks after his security then? Does he have his own State Police security? Even if he does, the local police not being told seems to me to be a major issue. It's almost as if he wanted to keep it secret from all but a few.

14. Amazing. Chico is very Republican.
If his own base can't stand him, I think he needs to call it a day.
