Polio vaccines 'infect Muslims with Aids'
Nigerian authorities said on Wednesday polio vaccines recently administered in a nationwide campaign will undergo laboratory testing to calm fears the United States is using the immunisation campaign to sow Aids and sterility among Muslims.

Vice President Abubakar Atiku ordered testing on the vaccines for agents that could spread HIV or sterility, adding that international, federal and state health authorities must work together to resolve "the various issues surrounding the analysis of the polio vaccines", Nigeria's state television reported.

An official in Atiku's office, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the order.

Health workers on Friday launched a drive to immunize 15-million African children at immediate risk of contracting polio -- an effort hampered in Nigeria by an assertion by Islamic radicals the vaccination drive is part of a US plan to decimate the Muslim population by spreading Aids and infertility.

Three predominantly Muslim states in northern Nigeria -- Kano, Kaduna and Zamfara -- have either delayed or refused permission for the vaccination drive, with Zamfara demanding proof the vaccine is safe.

1. This is insane
Polio was supposed to be irradicated decades ago. Pockets of it have sprung up. The international community has quickly gotten its act together to immunize. Now this is put in jeopoardy? Polio spreads like wildfire.

2. Yep. Totally and completely insane. Just like our neocon emperors.
From the original September, 2000 (a year before 9/11) PNAC document and attributed to Paul Wolfowitz and Lewis Libby (Cheney's Chief of Staff):

http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf

New methods of attack - electronic, 'non-lethal', biological - will be more widely available combat likely will take place in new dimensions, in space, cyberspace, and perhaps the world of microbes advanced forms of biological warfare that can 'target' specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool.

3. This from today

US develops lethal new viruses
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=190324

A scientist funded by the US government has deliberately created an extremely deadly form of mousepox, a relative of the smallpox virus, through genetic engineering. The new virus kills all mice even if they have been given antiviral drugs as well as a vaccine that would normally protect them.

The work has not stopped there. The cowpox virus, which infects a range of animals including humans, has been genetically altered in a similar way.

(...)

Despite the concerns, work on lethal new pox viruses seems likely to continue in the US. When members of the audience in Geneva questioned the need for such experiments, an American voice in the back boomed out: "Nine-eleven". There were murmurs of agreement.

Sounds like they have every reason to be suspicious of US motives as far as vaccines are concerned. After all, the US administration has SAID that they are trying to develop bioweapons that affect everyone but white guys -- why shouldn't they be taken at their word, at least for caution's sake?

8. One of the several microbiologists that have been deaded
in the past two years or so was a microbiologist from Australia or New Zealand that was working on the lethal mousepox virus.

My foil is hoisted.

I would not let my government vaccine myself or my children. I don't blame them one bit. Especially with the stories about the AIDS virus being engineered in a laboratory and then placed in innoculations in Africa I have read.

17. He worked in the same lab building...
...as far as I know there's no evidence he actually worked in the lab that created the mousepox virus. I'm not even sure he was a microbiologist, for that matter - a PubMed search brings up nothing...

4. They have a right to be worried...
and I would not doubt that something along these lines is being
planned.
Another thing...maybe this is exactly what happened in Africa
25 years ago or so...

11. AIDS is designed for Blacks, SARS for Asians
That's why those diseases spread so much more quickly thru those populations. This is thought to be part of the military research that Congress approved and funded--- to develop diseases that target different genetic groups (just like there are already natural diseases that target Jews, Blacks, etc.) Or so the thinking goes.

Our gov't is so freakin' vaccine happy, I'm with you guys---I will resist. I've never seen an admin trying to push such dangerous and yet nonsensical vaccines like smallpox and anthrax---wtf are they REALLY up to, the skeptic wonders.

19. Ummm...no.
If you look at the phylogeny of the lentiviral family, claims that HIV was targetted to any population become ludicrous. The discovery of HIV made scientists look for related viruses, and we've found equine, bovine, feline, simian, and sheep versions of the virus. HIV was not, as you imply, engineered. It evolved.

As far as vaccines....vaccines are one of the greatest discoveries in history. Some suck, granted, but in general vaccines represent one of the great medical discoveries of our time. What would you offer in their place?

6. I agree, Kalian
The world at large distrusts anything from our country. Hell, I distrust our government and the objectives to be met to reach the ultimate goals of the PNAC.

These are wicked times for the global community. The repercussions of what has already occured and what happens now will resound for decades to come.

7. If an independent body did random spot checks without regime approval

that would clearly be terrorism.

The campaign to depopulate Africa is of such long standing, and takes so many different tactics, that I would not reject the notion out of hand.

9. Now ebola I'd believe, AIDS not chance.
Large doses would spread like wildfire, wipe out millions in months, the original strain comes from Africa, an outbreak would be believable.

10. I don't rule anything out anymore
Following the money usually works- Just yesterday, Clinton brokered a deal to get HIV/Aids drugs at a cut rate. Increased need would make a difference to someone's pocketbook.

Who knows? I just can't help but think about it.

A research team backed by a federal grant has created a genetically engineered mousepox virus designed to evade vaccines, underscoring biotechnology’s deadly potential and stirring debate over whether such research plays into the hands of terrorists.
