Iraq war was vital for Britain's security: Blair

London, September 25: Asserting that invading Iraq was vital for UK's security, Prime Minister Tony Blair on Sunday said British forces will remain in the war-torn country until peace is restored.

Coinciding with the Labour party conference at Brighton, the Prime Minister, in an interview to BBC's Sunday AM programme, admitted that the struggle against insurgents in Iraq had been tougher than he expected.

"I didn't expect quite the same ferocity from every single element in the Middle East that came in and was doing their best to disrupt the political process," he said.

Speaking for the first time since two SAS officers were handed to militants by Iraqi police in Basra, he said, "There is no arbitrary date that's being set and the allies are all in exactly the same position".

9. He's hallucinating, I think
Here's what he said:

Marr: Did you expect it to be this hard?

Blair: No, I didn't expect quite the same ferocity from every single element in the Middle East that came in, and was doing their best to disrupt the political process, but I have absolutely no doubt as to what we should do, we should stick with it.

Marr: Would you have stuck with it had you known then what happened afterwards? You'd have done exactly the same thing?

Blair: No, there is no doubt in my mind at all that what is happening in Iraq now is crucial for the future of our own security. Never mind the security of Iraq, or the greater Middle East, it is crucial for the security of the world. If they are defeated - this type of global terrorism - in Iraq, then we will defeat them everywhere.

So, he thinks that what is happening in Iraq is 'global terrorism' - and either thought it was happening before he invaded (the hallucination), or is admitting that he purposely caused the terrorism to come to Iraq - in which case, the 25,000 Iraqis killed (a figure he didn't dispute earlier in the interview, nor, by the way, that US and UK forces have killed a third of them) are his fault.

10. My guess is...
His mother sent him to bed with a few too many 'boogieman' stories.

Chasing those foxes out of their holes is a Noble sport.

At All Co$t$ (Including Some 100 Expendable "Poor" Boys 'n Girls...) http://icasualties.org/oif

Tony Blair is expected to join one of the most exclusive groups of businessmen in the world after he leaves Downing Street.

The PM is being lined up for a highly lucrative position with the Carlyle Group - an American-based investment giant with strong links to the White House and the defense industry.

The firm has been nicknamed "The Ex-Presidents Club" because it has had a host of former world leaders on its books including George Bush Senior, his former secretary of state James Baker and former British PM John Major. There a also a large number of former US Army top brass.

Mr. Blair has been keeping quiet about his plans after his departure from Number 10 - which could be as early as 2007 according to some Labour insiders.

6. Glad to hear it! Let's turn the whole mess over to the Brits. They've
been holding our coats too long now. Let them defend their national interests in Iraq. Ours certainly aren't located there.
