Palestinian refugees donate 10,000 dollars to Katrina victims
http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle.asp?xfile=data/middleeast/2005/September/middleeast_September378.xml§ion=middleeast&col=

RAMALLAH, West Bank - A Palestinian refugee committee on Tuesday donated 10,000 dollars to help the tens of thousands of Americans made homeless by Hurricane Katrina.

Representatives from Palestinian refugee camps, which house some of the most disadvantaged people in the Middle East, handed the cheque to US consul general Jacob Walles in the West Bank town of Ramallah.

2. I just might kick this all night long (recommending)....
One of the groups of people that U.S. foreign policy has most shit upon, whose plight is the cause of much of the turmoil that we have exploited in the ME, can find the decency to send money they can ill afford to soothe the suffering of one of their most remorseless enemies.

Kick indeed. I just don't know what else to say.

5. But they called our people REFUGEES!!
DAMN IT!

But seriously this is a pretty nice gesture from a group of people that live in these horrible conditions all their lives.

14. They have just as much a right a return as the people of N.O.
And ain't so sad that so many people, even so-called progressives, would deny them that basic human right?

I gotta tell you all, as someone who has spent some time in the West Bank, that there is not a more humane people in all the earth.

Unfortunately, with the help of our congresspeople (yes, even those "democrats" with a few exceptions) there is not a more oppressed people in all the earth either.

15. The donation is offered freely and it is a plea...
A plea to be perceived as the decent human beings that they are.

I am so, so sick of the perception of all Palestinians as terrorists.

I pray for a secure and democratic Israel AND for a secure, prosperous Palestine.

Here are reports from friends who traveled to Israel-Palestine and met with many, many Israelis and Palestinians: < http://www.bpac.info/IDIP/delegation.html >

18. Just think what might be accomplished if we tried to deal honestly and
fairly with these people for a change. Hey, maybe even let them participate in the world economy as an equal. I have a feeling that this would make a big difference. Do I think it will happen?

Nope.

20. People all over the world...
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 12:01 AM by Bravo411
are starting to realize that our government doesn't just not give a shit about them, but that it doesn't give a shit about its own people.

Palestinians, Iraqis, and Americans now have something in common, the Corporate owned U.S. government doesn't give a shit about anything other than corporate profit. They don't care who dies and will do whatever it can to ensure they continue to profit from the death, even if it's the citizens of this country dying in the streets of America.

On Edit: P.S. -Thank you Palestine. Now it's up to us, the American People to ensure that Halliburton, SCI, and the rest of Bush's corporate cronies don't get their fat grubby hands on the money. We've got our work cut out for us, cause they've already started dolling out the funds to them.
