"Toxic" explosion at Detroit chem plant

"An explosion at a chemical factory in Wayne is causing a hazardous situation in the area.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department is cautioning that this is a hazardous materials situation. Residents in the area are being told to close doors and windows in their homes.

The sheriff's department is assisting with evacuations. Hazmat crews are at the scene.

Witnesses are saying the smell is permeating the air and is "toxic." Massive fireballs were exploding in the air, according to witnesses."

9. I think Hertz is east of the airport, but National is north of 94, I think

Motel 6, Comfort Inn and a bunch of others are north of 94, as I recall.

An explosion at a chemical factory in Romulus is causing a hazardous situation in the area.

Initial reports said the explosion was in Wayne, but Local 4 is now reporting that the explosion is in Romulus in the area of Wayne and Van Born roads.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department is cautioning that this is a hazardous materials situation. Residents in the area are being told to close doors and windows in their homes.

The sheriff's department is assisting with evacuations. Hazmat crews are at the scene.

Local 4 is reporting that the explosion started at the EQ Resource Recovery, Inc. (EQRR). The company blends fuel and recycles solvent, according to its Web site.

7. Prevailing winds are out of the SW at 5 mph right now.
That propably jeapordizes the subdivision north of Van BOrn Road.

24. My pal lived on Harroun in that sub about a mile north of the plant
He moved to Florida a few years ago. It was a pretty nice sub.

Remaining residents in the area are being told to close doors and windows in their homes. Officials are warning everyone to stay away from the area.

The sheriff's department is assisting with evacuations and Romulus High School has been opened to accept anyone in the area who is evacuated. Hazmat crews are at the scene.

21. I'm atching on local news and they have evacuated the area
for about 1/2 mile. Fire too bad for crews to get to yet. Telling people if they smell fumes they sould leave and go to one of the shelters they have set up.. But the funny thing is.... the mayor, newspeople, fire crew and EMS are all standing around with nothing covering their eyes or mouths.
