Troop cuts in Iraq feasible - House Republican
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States might be able to remove up to 30,000 troops from Iraq by next spring as the Iraqi military gets stronger, the chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Armed Services Committee said on Sunday.

Separately, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told Time magazine that Iraqi insurgents were losing steam as a political force even though their ability to kill and maim appeared undiminished.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record), a California Republican, said on CBS' "Face the Nation" it was feasible to begin planning for U.S. troop reductions of that size even though recent deadly attacks have again raised questions about whether Washington has underestimated the Iraqi insurgency.

Reports indicate "there is a growing strong core of strength in the Iraqi military, that it's standing and fighting, that it's doing its share of the load," Hunter said.

2. What they should be saying is
It's feasible to remove troops because 2006 is an election year and we want to save our seats.

D. We have "saved" this country and now its time for them to step up to the plate

E. We've been so successful its time for us to move over to Syria

5. Yes!
The U$ just keeps hiring more mercenaries and sends back troops (although, this should be watched, if possible).
Of course when mercenary death rate is such that even the pay isn't worth it, what happens?

9. You may be right
Didn't I read, last week, something about getting Vietnamese to train Iraqi soldiers? This could go from training to fighting the war on behalf of the US. It will be an irony if Vietnam allows her citizens to be hired to do the bidding of a colonial master that Vietnam fought against not too long ago.

11. Didn't someone once say something about a communism domino theory??
So let's see, back in the 60's we have a fucked up war that killed 3 million Vietnamese. Which, the Vietnamese incidentally call, "The American War". And they won.

So fast forward to today.

We ask the Vietnamese to train Iraqi's. In Iraq, you have a disinfrancised population, that has no voice of their own, is controled by puppet figures in a psuedo gov't...call me crazy, but it sounds a lot like the Vietnam we were trying to save from iron fist of Communism.

So now our former foes are going to train Iraqi's? Call me crazy, but apparently these morons in Washington have forgotten that the basic tenant of Communism is to convince the workers/poor of the world to over throw their corporate masters.

Given the current situation over their, I would think the average poor slob Iraqi, that has no job, his country is occupied by a foriegn nation, there are daily killings, bombings, and kidnappings, has no electricity, no running water, no a/c in 115+ heat, no forseeable peaceful future, would soak up that sort of stuff.

I have a bridge to sell you if you honestly believe that the Vietnamese wouldn't take advantage of this situation.

It's amazing. The many things moron* does to continually shoot himself in the foot. He has to be footless by now.

This is just one more fucked up thing to stir into the pot over there.

6. Bush and his administration are political whores
Rumsfeld admitted that only 3% of the Iraq units were up to fighting. Why don't they just say they are withdrawing from Iraq with honor as Nixon did. Is W going to leave that many of our forces there to be cannon fodder until he makes the announcement?

Condi needs to be sent back to Alabama or wherever she came from.

10. Trial balloon
They are looking for an excuse to cut and run..... eerrrr.... bring the troops home with honor to avoid the inevitable shit storm of the 2006 elections, when at least 3 or 4 Iraq vets are contemplated to be on Democratic ballots.

They are having trouble getting swift boats guys to run.

15. Lying bastards !
their just gearing up for the 2006 elections. We have never had enough troops in Iraq to secure the place, that's why it's out of control and nothing we're doing right now is changing this.
