Police Raid London Home Seeking Bomb Suspects
Police Raid London Home Seeking Bomb Suspects

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: July 29, 2005
LONDON (AP) -- Police apparently using stun grenades raided a west London home Friday seeking suspects in the failed July 21 bombings targeting the capital's transit system, and a British television network reported one arrest.

The raid took place near Portobello Road in the chic Notting Hill neighborhood famous for its weekend street market.
Metropolitan Police confirmed that "an armed operation is currently in progress" but said it was in the "very early stages."

Sky News reported two small explosions in the area, where helicopters buzzed overhead and police cordoned off a number of streets, and said one person had been arrested.

One witness told CNN he heard six blasts and a policeman told him they were stun grenades.

1. More from BBC:
"Armed police investigating the 21 July attempted bombings have made a number of arrests and surrounded flats in west London in "significant" operations. The area, around Dalgarno Gardens, North Kensington, has been cordoned off, and the area has been evacuated.

Eyewitnesses say they heard three shots and a large explosion as officers wearing gas masks entered a property.

Police are seeking three men in connection with the attempted bomb attacks in London. Muktar Said Ibrahim, 27, also known as Muktar Muhammad Said, has been named as one of the three.

Police are continually shouting at someone in the flat to come out. They are addressing him as "Muhammad". The police are asking him: "What is the problem? Why can't you come out? "Take your clothes off. Exit the building. Do you understand?"...

Scotland Yard say they are not aware of firearms having been used. "
