Root of the Rove controversy is the war in Iraq (David Gregory)
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 12:44 PM by maddezmom
U.S. justification for waging war on Saddam still haunts White House

David Gregory
Chief White House correspondent

WASHINGTON, DC - President Bush said on Wednesday that he will reserve judgement on Karl Rove’s possible involvement in the leaking of a CIA agent's identity until the special prosecutor’s criminal investigation into the matter is complete.

"This is a serious investigation," Bush said at the end of a meeting with his Cabinet, with Rove, his Deputy Chief of Staff, sitting just behind him. "I will be more than happy to comment on this matter once this investigation is complete,” Bush said.

While the White House seemingly stands by its man, NBC News Chief White House correspondent David Gregory discusses the investigation, how the administration is expected to proceed, and how the root of the scandal is once again the controversial justifications for the war in Iraq.

As to the question of whether what Karl Rove did was a smear campaign, or politically sleazy, it’s pretty clear to me that everyone in White House — from the president, to the vice-president, to other officials — shared Rove’s interest in discrediting former ambassador Joseph Wilson who was critical of the administration’s case for going to war in Iraq.

4. As was JOhn Roberts from CBS here is his peice
The Rove Distraction

The White House took a baby step toward lifting the cone of silence that it has placed around the Karl Rove controversy on Tuesday, offering in response to a question that "yes", President Bush continues to have confidence in his deputy chief of staff and top political advisor.

And in answer to demands from Democrats that Rove's security clearance be revoked, the White House intoned that he has the "appropriate" security clearance.

Politically, though, the White House needs to have something else to say besides "we are not going to comment on an ongoing investigation."

They have commented on it extensively in the past.

"Rove's attorney says was nothing more than to steer a reporter off of potentially bad information."

The White House wouldn't want any bad information out there, eh?

and it was Wilson who lied*

Seriously he was screaming the Rove talking points from the RNC for about an hour.

*it is now a lie-yesterday it was that Wilson's report "didn't change the intelligence assessment". This intelligence assessment was that the forged document was so bad that no one took it seriously. Wilson's report didn't change the assessment it just restated what was already obvious.

16. And they don't mention that Wilson's report confirmed the Ambassador to
Niger's previous reports to the Administration that the Niger/Iraq story was bunk. And also was in sync with a previous report by a military guy who had been assigned to check it out. Only Wilson went public so he had to be squashed.

Bring this home and the lies wrt the rationale for war will be undeniable even to the most wacked out whack job.

Then these whack jobs will have to ask - Was getting rid of Saddam serious enough a reason to slaughter 100,000 Iraqis, send 1,800 US troops to their deaths and who knows how many to the VA Hospital, to spend $500,000,000,000.00 AND to decrease our security (58% now believe that the invasion of Iraq has made us LESS secure)?

15. I think Judith Miller will sit in the cell til Bolton is recess appointed
Eventually it will be revealed that it was Bolton who mucked thru CIA files and delivered the dossier on Plame to Powell who carried it on the plane trip, with bush, to Africa.

I think Bolton is the 'other' source she was plotting with and won't reveal.

Who will cover the (White) House? It's Bolton in the library with a candlestick (up his ass). Miller is the Shill Supreme for these fuckers and she's going to play martyr right up to the moment of miraculous presidential pardon or some equally machiavellian maneuver from the Prince of Darkness.

Step right up and place your bets...

Let's hope we all are serious about this one...

Cooper Confirms Rove as Source
Matthew Cooper

By E&P Staff

Published: July 13, 2005 3:15 PM ET

NEW YORK Time's magazine's Matt Cooper today confirmed to a grand jury that White House aide Karl Rove was his source for a story about a CIA operative that has investigators deciding whether any laws were broken by the leak of the agent's identity.

Cooper told reporters he would give them details of his grand jury testimony -- in a future article for Time magazine.
. . .
He confirmed that his source on the leak was Deputy Chief of Staff Rove, one of President Bush's most trusted advisers and the man credited with Bush's four consecutive campaign victories.

The waiver that freed Cooper to cooperate with the grand jury was signed by Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin. Cooper's attorney, Richard Sauber, was on hand Wednesday to pass out photocopies of the waiver to reporters.

28. I think the fact that Karl Rove is a heartless bastard who doesn't
'play well with others' is going to come back and bite him in his considerable ass, big time. He's made a lot of enemies because he is such a horrid human being. Now that there is a chink in the teflon I think many people with axes to grind will enjoy the Pillsbury Roveboy's downfall.
