Bush says Iraq War "America's Golden Moment"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157853,00.html

Bush said that in 20 years time, when we look back, we will see the Iraq war as "America's Golden Moment."

At the Naval Academy graduation today, Bush made the following comments:

"ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The U.S. military is on the offensive in the War on Terror (search) to prevent terrorists from reaching America's shores, President Bush said Friday, adding that 20 years from now, historians will look back on the Iraq war as "America's golden moment."

"We are taking the fight to the enemy abroad so we do not have to face them here at home," Bush said in addressing the 2005 U.S. Naval Academy graduates."

114. The only point in that speech when he got applause
was when he mentioned the Navy football team.

Other than that, it didn't sound like anyone was buying a bit of it.

How pathetic is it when the preznit can't get applause at the friggin' Navy Academy??

You know, when I was one time campaigning in Chicago, a reporter said, would you ever have a deficit? And I said, I can't imagine it, but there would be one if we had a war, or a national emergency, or a recession. (Laughter.) Never did I dream we'd get the trifecta. (Laughter.)

73. Gee I remember two "Golden Moments"
Two famous and horrible pictures.
1. the gun shot to the head photo
2. the napalmed little girl running with all her clothes blown off and most of skin fried to a crisp.

I hope Johnson, Nixon and the rest are get'n theirs right now. How do we let our rotten, no good son of a bitch, bastard, politicians get away with it? We are fucking retarded as a country or is it just the "human condition" that allows this shit to happen? I swear there are many times when I ashamed to be human.

90. Unfortunately it is human nature...
and by no means am I belittling any suffering or death in todays world, but war and the suffering (as well as the "spoils" of war; rapping, pillaging, torture etc.) in previous centuries was pretty fucking brutal.

That said, you'd think we'd learn and that an "educated" society such as our (obviously debatable) would own it and stop these bastards from continuing the legacy. Especially in a "democracy".

America is hypnotized by Madison avenue and focused on what they want (cars, cloths, popularity, "the Jones"), pacified by the filtered news that tells them what the want to hear and vested in reality television (the death of any true entertainment for that medium)and religion.

As arrogant as these bastards are, they will eventually cross the line and be responsible for another wake up call. You'd think 9/11 would have accomplished something, it certainly did for me but BushCo hijacked (irony) that event and used it to bring us here (another overlooked wake up call).

America is asleep at the wheel because of self involvement and until we (as a country) are able to set aside that which is convenient to our material best interest it will continue to be manipulated.

This didn't start out as a rant, but oh well...

Have a great weekend

104. Rant schmant, I likey. You know why? 'Cause you're right...
but hey, it's not just them (other people) that have the American Syndrome, even the people who really care and daily realize that WE'RE IN A FUCKING WAR that aren't doing a damn thing.

I would love to take a few hours every Saturday or Sunday and hang out with a couple thousand of my closest friends in sayyyy, the middle of the I-5 freeway. My bullhorn is getting lonely and I have a pocket full of chants that have yet gone unchanted.

But here we are. Bitching and moaning, listening to the crappy white washed emo-punk-wanna-be pop-rock that says nothing about anything.

195. That is our collective shame to bear.
Capitalism has chained us to our possessions, with golden chains no less. Risk everything including our freedom (staying out of prison kind of freedom) for what. For doing what is morally right, for standing up against the evil and powerful, for following the basic teaching of JC (see "sermon on the mount"). Naw what we need is a good old threat to our prosperity, just like the founding fathers had then we'll move. As long as any administration is able to keep those golden chains strong they are safe to commit any atrocity, any crime just don't take away my SUV, house large enough for 4 families and ski boat.

173. Images are powerful
Even more shameful is the film of that Viet Cong man being shot in the head, his life visibly withering as he fell to the ground.

And who can forget the horror or that girl running down the street, arms raised, in complete agony. But recall the boy, too, to the left in the photo (if I recall). His is such a picture of pure human grief, complete revulsion of experience.

To this day I am crushed by both.

Iraq too has it's photos. There's that photo of a man, perhaps the father, carrying a girl of perhaps 11 or 12, where her foot used to be there were just shreds of flesh.

Then that picture of that boy, maybe 3 or 4. No blood, just ribbons of flesh where his brain used to be.

Or that picture of a family running ahead of an American tank. Father, daughter, two brothers. Again, that look pr pure and absolute grief and horror for what we do to eachother.

Who can rest easy, not feel shamed. Did we do everything we could to avoid war? Of course not. It was a sham from the moment, in the SPring of 2002, when Condie Rice accusingly announced that Iraq might be (again that word, "might") -- might be holding a fighter pilot in some hellish hole, downed in the first days of the first Gulf War (fought, recall in anger, for "democracy" in Kuwait according to GHWB -- like father, like son).

These days are worse than Vietnam, in my opinion, because we no longer have the excuse of innocence.

(in the world out there, that is...)

1. President John Kennedy
2. President Bill Clinton
3. President Jimmy Carter

I wonder where (if not at #1) President Al Gore would be ('cuz he would have prevented the new Pearl Harbor from happening by raising security at ALL airports, and by launching a deep investigation into ALL 'pilot schools' where that Massaoui bastard was arrested...)

Tens of thousands of innocent People would still be living in Peace today...

1. President Al Gore
2. President John Kennedy
3. President Bill Clinton
4. President Jimmy Carter

Yeah. All of them liked and admired in most of the world...

I'll leave the "list of the most hatered ones" to a DUer who's not feeling as depressed as moi, for now...

200. That's what I keep telling her
Maybe I should just refer her to the ACLU site where the torture documents are and see what she thinks then.
She'll probably say something like, "That ain't new, our soldiers did the same thing in Vietnam, I had a freind who took photographs during the war and there was picture of our soldiers putting heads on stakes." Turns out the photos were confiscated.
Umm... doesn't she see the similarities between Iraq and Vietnam?
Both are not true wars.

I can't believe that she is sooooooo blind.

36. He also said they'd be throwing flowers at us...
(though they seem to be throwing more mortars that floral arrangements) and that Saddam had huge stockpiles of WMD (which he didn't), and tried to buy uranium from Niger (based on a document the government already knew to be a forgery), and Iraqi oil money would pay for the invasion (even though we and our kids will be paying for it for decades), and that we'd be out quickly (while building permanent bases), and that invasion wasn't a forgone conclusion (even after it was) and that the prescription drug bill would come in under 400 billion (even though he knew that was a lie).

Why does anyone even *listen* to this fraud any more?

37. more like the big bowl of bush feces moment.
geez. i must really be angry today. everything i can think of and anything that i can think of when bush is mentioned is, "bush feces".

On the other hand, Bush may be the guy with the anger and suffering from ENCOPRESIS.

The DSMIV Diagnosis for Encopresis states,

The child with ENCOPRESIS often feels ashamed and may wish to avoid situations which that might lead to embarrasment. "avoid situations that might lead to embarrasment". geez, don't you think the bush boy knows he is a failure, does not want to be criticized in his face about his incompetence and all, therefore, has to live in a bubble--and has to arrest terrible terrorists like the dissenter nun his nazified police arrested up in New York a couple of days ago.

The DSMIV further states, "smearing feces may be deliberate or accidental ..." "When the incontinence is clearly deliberate, features of Oppositional Defiant Disorder or Conduct Disorder may also be present."

and, hasn't bush had a previous history of CONDUCT DISORDER... and isn't he exhibiting OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER when he wants to have all of his judges and his united nations ambassador confirmed despite what the body called The Senate, which is supposed to advise and consent, says about said judges or said ambassador to the United Nations?

AND ... lastly, hasn't bush been smearing feces all over our Constitution, our Democracy, our Civil Liberties, our very own American way of life, and our very own American Values.

Yes... twenty years from now... we will not be looking at today as "Murricah's Golden Mohhhhmehnnt". We will be looking at it as "Bush's Bowl of Feces to our Beloved America".

in Iraq reaches 10,000, American public opinion finally forces a withdrawal from the blood-stained hellhole, and radical Islamists take over the country after a long civil war, anyone in his right mind will call these days America's darkest -- the time when the US lost its credibility, along with its way, and forever tarnished its image in the eyes of the world.

After 9/11 Bush could have utilized those days to unite, bring together common causes, but no, he choose to divide and line the pockets of his cronies. Before that, it sure would be heart-warming to see the BFEE frog-marched to the Hague and sentenced appropriately (think von Ribbentrop).

78. He was repeating Ed Slavis comment, not his own
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/05/20050527.html

Sitting in that crowd four years ago was Midshipman Edward Slavis. When I gave the order to liberate Iraq, he charged across the Kuwaiti border, leading a rifle platoon through 21 days of tough fighting into the heart of Baghdad. His battalion helped pull down the statue of Saddam Hussein. Ed says, "I will have time for myself later. Now I just feel privileged to spend my life doing something much larger than myself." He went on to say, "The mission will be a success, and 20 or 30 years from now historians will look back on the mission to Iraq as America's golden moment." Ed Slavis is serving his country with courage, and he's adding to the history of this Academy.

--------
Ed Slavis was a witness, apparently, to the Saddam propaganda statue toppling, so he's off base in the first place. Somebody, it wasn't Bush, decided to quote that guy's golden moment comment, but even though the words came out Idiot's mouth, it was somebody else who originated them.

127. So, in fact, it's Fox News spinning it
(heh, what a surprise!) Because that was some poor misguided fool of a midshipman saying it two years ago, before the lies, the corruption, the mismanagement and the torture became apparent. It would be interesting to know if he still feels it was such a golden moment.

Dubya was talking to Marines, too, so quoting one isn't out of place in itself. Slavis' name turns up in Google under "Marine Corps marathon results", so it's reasonable to presume he is one.

I have this awful feeling that Bushies will engage in revisionist history (they're doing it now too) when it comes to this war---they'll probably prohibit the publishing of textbooks that show Bush in an unfavorable light and use their "spin doctors" to edit the text.

115. Bush, the Peter Pan Syndrome
Bush:

He lacks integrity. He's very boastful, arrogant, doesn't care for us The People, chuckles easily at people who are misfortunate, like he did to that lady who told him she had to work three jobs to make ends meet, saying "that's the way you should be doing". Funny for someone who was born with silver spoon in his mouth to say. What an idiot!!

He war-cries, pow-wowing for democracy in Iraq, but wants no democracy for us American people. He's SOOOOOO proud to call himself "Wartime President" when in reality, he wants to be a dictator to have everything go his way, won't listen to people who disagree with him. Hey, he has NEVER been in any armed forces in his whole life so what does he know?? He's so damn immature that he's an embarassment to us good American people. I see him having "Peter Pan Syndrome" and is seeing Iraq War as his toy soldiers/forts.

America is no longer a Country, but is the Corporation now considering how Bush Administration is catering to the corporations, letting that bad bankruptcy reform bill pass that will hurt Americans who really need it, but benefits greatly to credit card companies/banks/predatory leaders plus the Bush Administration is allowing these companies to charge interests as high as they damn please and add extra bogus charges whatever they feel like, too.

Is trying to dismantle Social Security that has been a net for American people and to keep them out of poverty for so many years. Bush is trying to turn over Social Security to Wall Street People that could destroy it completely with greed and dishonesty thus leaving us middle class/poor people to fret for ourselves.

America not a Country to Bush and his Cronies = Bush Administration is pushing for drilling Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to turn it into OIL CORPORATION. Pretty soon America won't have any wildlife, no land to grow vegetables or have farms. America will be filled with more & more of those ugly tall block buildings and more of Wal-marts and more high-rise condos (Stinky Rich's beehives) along the beach so middle class/poor people will no longer enjoy beach.

Just for one man in Iraq, we have lost and injured thousands and thousands of US/Allied soldiers, US/Foreign civilians/constractors, Iraqi people/children, animals and assaulting Earth over there, too!

Golden Moment? What a BIG Joke!!

135. Bush: Money Wasted on Bases Needed for War
Edited on Fri May-27-05 05:08 PM by Roland99
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/05/27/national/w123928D22.DTL

Speaking out for the first time in favor of controversial base closings, President Bush said Friday the nation is wasting billions of dollars on unnecessary military facilities and needs the money for the war on terrorism.

<...>

In a speech to graduates of the Naval Academy, he said the closings and realignments "will result in a military that is more efficient and better prepared so you can better protect the American people against the dangers of this new century."

When Bush last spoke at a Naval Academy commencement, it was four months before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and his focus was his administration's effort to reshape the military into a faster, lighter and more flexible — but not larger — fighting force.

Since the attacks, and amid a global anti-terror campaign and wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, a top-to-bottom military transformation is even more necessary, Bush said. Keys to the success are new technology, repositioning of global forces, new weapons and realigned bases at home, he said.

I have but one thing to say to President PNAC Propagandist:

The exact quote:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/05/20050527.html
The military services have each done a review of their requirements, and they have concluded that we have more bases than we need. Supporting these facilities wastes billions of taxpayer dollars, money that can be better spent on giving you the tools to fight terrorists and confront 21st-century threats.

Hey, fuckwad? How about using that money to fix problems here at home instead of lining your asshole business partners' wallets?

Golden section indeed, as the cost is divisible by 1, and produces a
perpetual copy of terrorism and world war in every generation.

It is the golden war phallusy.

The U.S. Military is offensive. The war of Terror to prevent
terriers from reaching american shores, Coocoo-bananas said Friday,
adding that 20 years from now, we'd see the golden ratio in Iraq,
that 100 billion dollars spent will cost 161 billion more to
clean up the mess... and 1.618 lives lost for every 100 million.

Bush also said: "Its proof that God spoke to us in ancient roman
architecture, predicting the excessive waste of my administration, and
the eventual decline of this nation i'm cynically destroying."

Asked for comment, Bush said: "I eat my shit every morning, because
i expect you to eat it too, and i tell YOU... it tastes GRREEAATT."

Scot Mclellan then got up and ate a warm steaming fresh bush-shit
in front of all assembled just to show how it is done. He smiled
afterwards with brown flecks on his teeth, looking happy as a clam.

If Bush has the chutzpah to call this a golden moment, if he thinks anything about the Iraq war is wonderful, he is a sick man. He is seriously deluded, seriously enough to be committed to a mental institution, and I am not kidding one bit. He needs to get some fucking tact and remember that war isn't a joyful god-damn event to pat yourself on the back about. His attitude is sick. People are suffering down here in reality BECAUSE OF HIM. He has completely distanced himself from the death, destruction, and pain he started. He's taunted the enemy to "bring it on" to America's children while hiding himself in his safe bunker. He's made crass and tasteless jokes about no WMD and now he's fantasizing about how wonderful he's going to look in hindsight.

"We are taking the fight to the enemy abroad so we do not have to face them here at home."

I got news for you, Bub. The enemy was never *in* Iraq. We've taken a fight to a land that once housed no direct threats to the US. Thanks to you, now we've inflamed and enraged the people in Iraq--by killing 100,000+ of them--and destroying their infrastructure and taking away their sense of safety and security.

You. Total. Nimrod.

This country was never at risk of any Iraqis *coming here* to "face" us "here at home."

JUST WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??????????

NO REALLY!!! WTF DO YOU MEAN BY THAT??? YOU THINK THE IRAQIS WERE COMING HERE TO SHOW UP ON OUR PORCHES AND TAKE US AWAY????

HELLOOOOOOO!

Damn! He enrages me!! He thinks he can read lofty soundbytes from a prepared speech--without a care in the world for the far-reaching depths of his lies. The man is such a bullshitter!!!

When will this farce of a presidency end????????

"Golden moment"? Excuse me, "GOLDEN MOMENT?" Don't get me started.

What a punk.

Yeah, yeah---Mr. "I don't walk about the White House thinking about my place in history." You don't obsess about your place in history (or so you say), but you WILL mull over the place in history your presidential actions will have. You believe in your own sick mind that your warmongering destructive behavior will be flagged as a "golden moment." For the LOVE of PETE!!!

Not even close, Junior!!

You are a complete idiot!!!

Let's see...Iraq went from bad to worse to horrible to catastrophic!!! It's now an obliterated country that is too unsafe for any corporation to enter or any humanitarian agency to operate. Where's the "Golden Moment" in any of that? I sure as hell don't see it? I see the death toll climbing. I see that the elections were a symbolic farce that meant NOTHING! I see Iraqi children dying and maimed. I see innocent Iraqi's dying daily. I see hatred for our country growing exponentially. I see our soldiers defecting to Canada. "Golden"??? WTF is "Golden" about any of that?

I can't WAIT...for your presidency to end and for the truth to unfold!! You'll sit on your Texas ranch--reading article after article about your failures and your abysmal place in history!! You're a disgrace to this country!!! I will relish the thought of you and Barney frolicking in the brush--as you mull over the fact that you are the biggest joke of a pResident that has EVER sat in the Oval Office!!

The only thing "Golden" about your pResidency is that YOU'RE A 14 KARAT FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!

You have disgraced our country's good name and you have tore apart our reputation and our standing in the world. Wake up, "Golden moment" boy and smell the cappuccino!! It's got crap in it because you crapped in it several times over. Take a big gulp, Junior--and take in the taste and smells of what you've done. I assure you--once you face the truth about your pResidency--you won't be using the words, "Golden Moment" anymore.

DAMN!!! How can you be so frickin stupid???? No seriously. How do you cross the street without getting flattened? How do you tie your shoes without confusing yourself into a coma? How do you eat a pretzel without...oh never mind.

You suck!!!! Ahhhh!!! AhHHHHHHH!!!

We are missing the golden opportunity to get off middle eastern oil dependency and find alternative energy sources.

we are missing the golden opportunity to remedy social security now instead of privatizing it. In 20 years the baby-boomers will be retiring and we have missed the chance to ensure adequate funds for their retirement.

169. This is such a perversion
A perversion of all that is good and true and kind. GWB, the "worst pResident ever"!

The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.
-- Theodore Roosevelt, 1912

180. A slight problem with this item...

FOX news is teh 5uck, of course.

Yahoo Fin ref for quote.

Don't care who said Iraq will be viewed as a "Golden Moment". Wars do not provide "Golden Moments" in history.

192. Well, it certainly has been 'golden' for
Cheney, Halliburton, Bush*, military contractors, oil companies, and on and on and on. Golden as in more cash for them.

It's been 'red' for the rest of us - red rage, red blood, red ink.

193. File that one next to Humphrey calling Vietnam our "greatest adventure"
Vice President Hubert Humphrey once referred to the war in Vietnam as America's "greatest adventure." Then came Tet 1968, and all the lies the Pentagon and the White House told about how well the war was going became "inoperative," to use Pentagonese.

I am sure that there are millions of gullible Americans that go to bed every night in fear that Iraqis will row across the Atlantic and land on the New Jersey shores, but they are also the same people that believe that George Bush is a modern prophet.

In the end, Iraq will end like Vietnam, except that there will be no North Vietnamese army to impose law and order.

201. I just complained to the ombudsman at the Wash Post
Not a word about this story in the paper today though they had an article about his Naval Academy speech.

Please write the ombudsman and complain.

[email protected]

Here is my letter:

How is it that George Bush can make such an outrageous statement so totally disconnected from reality in one of his speeches and there is not one word about it in the Washington Post. My husband has begun to call this paper the Washington Fish Wrap, and I am inclined to agree.

Here is the story on the most insensitive, out-of-touch statement ever from our Resident-in-Chief:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157853,00.html

Here is the quote:

The U.S. military is on the offensive in the War on Terror to prevent terrorists from reaching America's shores, President Bush said Friday, adding that 20 years from now, historians will look back on the Iraq war as "America's golden moment."

At least half of the country is currently deeply distressed by this unnecessary and increasingly problematic war. To even think we could look back on this as a "golden moment" is evidence of incompetence and disconnectedness in a commander in chief. I wish you people would stop protecting him and start serving the public.
