Anti-American Rallies Staged in Mideast
Thousands of Muslims marched Friday in Islamic countries from Asia to the Middle East, burning symbols of America to protest the alleged desecration of the Quran by military personnel at a U.S. prison in Guantanamo, Bay, Cuba.

The rallies in Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia and elsewhere followed an admission Thursday by U.S. investigators that Islam's holy book was mishandled at Guantanamo. But American officials claimed it was often inadvertent and denied that any Qurans were flushed down a toilet, as Newsweek magazine had reported in a now-retracted article.

No injuries were reported in Friday's demonstrations, with police simply watching in most places. In India's Kashmir region, however, police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse hundreds of Muslims gathered outside a mosque in the capital of Srinagar.

3. Nah... He'll say this article lied...
That these rallies were "pre-staged" and not "staged" like the article claims them to be! The horror of it all!

2. Will the military have to write and distribute a 'news' story on
how well things really are and what a great country the USA is to be spreading freedom?

4. Staged?
Why is it I never read a headline that says, "Pro-Bush Rallies Staged in Ohio," or "Anti-Social Security Rallies Staged in Chicago"?

6. Yes, good point.
I didn't even notice that. "staged"? This sounds like they're pretending, or play acting.

How about "held"?

Is this still newsweek's fault? Or is it now the WaPo's fault?

Does the headline say 'staged'? I don't think so...

12. "The occupiers should leave immediately"
One of the greatest smoke screens for the truth in Iraq, and used interminably by the mainstream media, is the term "insurgents".

All of us listening to and watching the news every night have this constant reinforcement of the idea that if not all but most of those fighting against the ‘coalition forces’ are not Iraqis, but insurgents, or people "surging in" from somewhere else with other, more sinister agendas, such arresting the arrival of democracy.

This gives us the impression that the real Iraqis, who we are told want liberation from their internal oppression, are all quietly sitting at home waiting for the two opposing forces of good and evil, both fighting over oil, to slug it out on their doorstops until one of them wins.

"The occupiers should leave immediately," he explains while sipping tea, "They only came with their own interests and we can manage Iraq for ourselves. We do not need them for any reason."
