Cancer Patients Take Their Hopes to Tijuana
Cancer patients take their hopes to Tijuana

Border city is world alternative therapy centre

Jo Tuckman in Tijuana
Saturday May 21, 2005
The Guardian

Farooq Hussain had never thought of visiting Mexico before he was diagnosed with stage four cancer in March. Now the 32-year-old Leeds builder has come to this border city in search of treatment to save his life.

<snip>

Tijuana is home to the largest concentration of cancer treatment centres offering unorthodox therapies anywhere in the world. More than 60 hospitals, clinics and semi-clandestine offices offer to cure or help control the disease in ways ranging from the unconventional to the controversial. Some revolve around purported detoxification methods such as enemas or electrical therapy. Some concentrate on the immune system, while others claim to work on the blood. One is producing an anti-cancer "vaccine".

<snip>

His deeply determined wife, Jerry Malik, needed less time to find hope. She plugged into the internet, entered "cancer breakthroughs" into search engines, and plunged herself into the enormous amount of information out there about alternative treatments, all the while pushing her husband to believe that the end was not necessarily nigh. The 25-year-old customer liaison officer is confident that she has researched her topic well and subscribes to the argument from alternative practitioners that the medical establishment disapproves of their therapies because these threaten conventional drug company profits.

<snip>

In the end, Farooq Hussain and his wife were most convinced by the Issels treatment, which includes lots of fruit juice and coffee enemas three times a day, as well as ozone and UV blood treatment and intravenous application of an extract made from apricot pips.

1. This is sad
It's unfortunate what desperate people will turn to. And its disgusting that whole industries exist to exploit this.

…in Skeptical Inquirer magazine a while back. This is the most despicable form of fraud.

3. What is fraud"

There are a lot of people that would praise this at CureZone. There is the basic belief that cancer as well as many other illnesses will not occur in the presence of oxygen- thus the ozone. Charlotte, NC is switching to UV treatment of water instead on adding the poison chlorine. Apricot pits contain B17 which contains cyanide. There are people that believe that cancer cells all but magnetically attract B17 and once it enters the cell the cyanide is released and kills the cancer cell.

I would take this therapy over chemo and radiation on any and every day.

I probably would too. Chemo can kill as well - it killed my father-in-law. Chemo is also big, big bu$ine$$.

Just because something is alternative doesn't mean it's bad. Unfortunately, Altternative therapies" are dismissed out of hand as fraud. How sad.

5. Ever heard of the late Congressman Larry McDonald (R-GA)?

He was an M.D. who sent patients to Mexico to get Laetrile, a drug derived from apricot pits.

He was also a national officer of the John Birch Society and a right wing whacko.

He was killed when the Soviets shot down the KAL flight he was on. This was in the early 80s.

6. Misinformation by the AMA & FDA true frauds-"When Healing Becomes a Crime
The pharmaceutical/chemical industry that is currently trying to outlaw supplements also creates toxic wastelands in its wake-called Superfund sites- and its most of the "cures" by Pharmo Giants produce their own set of illnesses.

Despite being involved in alternative medicine (specifically homeopathic medicine) since 1972, I have always been strongly skeptical of alternative therapies for cancer. I questioned their true effectiveness; even more, I questioned the ethics of their advocates. After reading Kenny Ausubel's newest book, I realize how effective the propaganda against alternative cancer therapies has been on me.

<snip>

The misinformation and demonization of alternative medicine by the AMA and the FDA is quite remarkable and sad (no, Saint-John's-wort won't cure this depression!). This McCarthyization of alternative healers didn't simply destroy people's lives as McCarthy did. It also led to the earlier death of hundreds of thousands of people by foisting upon them—as the only appropriate treatments for cancer—the notoriously ineffective and dangerous primitive radiation and chemotherapy of the day. This book details the experience of Harry Hoxsey and his herbal formulas. Hoxsey was arrested more than a hundred times in one two-year period, and hundreds of other times before and after this, although his leading nemesis, AMA leader Morris Fishbein, acknowledged under oath that Hoxsey's therapy was indeed effective in treating certain types of cancer. Fishbein's statement never changed his heavy-handed efforts to make access to Hoxsey's treatment difficult or impossible. Hoxsey's clinic was forced out of the US and into Mexico in the early 1960s; it has continued to provide care for people since Hoxsey's death in 1974, but is still not allowed into the US.

<snip>

To the contrary, Hoxsey and the lineage of natural medicine he espoused characterized cancer as a systemic illness..."which occurs only in the presence of a profound physiologic change in the consituents of body fluids and consequent chemical imbalance of the organism. Its real cause must be sought in the basic body chemistry and cell metabolism. We believe that the organism's attempt to adapt itself to the new and abnormal environment causes certain mutations in newly born cells of the body. Eventually a viciously competent cell evolves which finds the new environment eminently suitable to survival and rapid self-reproduction. These cells are what are known as cancer."

Hoxsey believed that a systemic approach could remedy the imbalance. "It follows that if the constitution of the body fluids can be normalized and the original chemical balance in the body restored, the environment again will become unfavorable for the survival and reproduction of these cells. They will cease to multiply and eventually they will die. Then if vital organs have not been too seriously damaged by the malignancy (or by surgery or irradiation), the entire organism will recover to normal health. We attempt to get at the roots of the disorder, rather than deal merely with its end result. Our primary effort is to restore the body to physiological normalcy."

7. Well, 7 years ago I got my cure just this way.
I was 40 years old and working for the NIH, at the Univ of Penns medical school, doing research- some of it in cancer research.

I found out that I was RIDDLED with cancer and believe me when I say that not one of my friends from the oncology dept. could even look me in the eye...my prognosis was not good.

I packed a bag and went to the Hospital Meridian in Tijuana where I started the Gerson Therapy. In less than 5 weeks my cancer was COMPLETELY GONE.

Do a search on Dr. Lorraine Day, and check out the pictures of her cancer, and listen to her tapes. THE CANCER INDUSTRY IS ALL ABOUT THE $$$. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest examples of mans' inhumanity to man.

Please, feel free to pm me if you'de like to learn more.
