Taiwan opposition leader Lien Chan called for peace with China Wednesday as he toured historic mainland sites nearly 60 years after his party was ousted from power by the communists and fled across the Strait.
Lien's trip has been billed as a journey of peace to seek reconciliation with an old enemy, but he said relations were at a "grave stalemate." As he left Taiwan Tuesday he was accused of betrayal by egg-throwing crowds who favor independence for the self-governing island.
China has claimed sovereignty over Taiwan since their split at the end of the civil war in 1949. In March it passed an anti-secession law that gives it the legal right to use force against the island of 23 million should it move to formally secede.

Taiwanese Official Calls for Peace at Sun Mausoleum
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=574&ncid=574&e=9&u=/nm/20050427/wl_nm/china_taiwan_dc_21. Lien is NOT a Taiwan official. You're completely wrong. He holds no office and is traveling as a private citizen.
2. In 1949 Formosa was invaded by the defeated KMT. The KMT murdered all leaders of self governing Formosa. The KMT renamed the island and it's existing citizens to Taiwan. Taiwanese have nothing to do with China, Communist or the butchers KMT.
3. Go back to school!
You're a dirty lying and/or stupid piece of feces Chellam!
+++++++++++++
The only people in Taiwan who want to be a part of China are the dirty bastards who invaded Formosa. I don't see why they just don't go back to China? Good bye! But then I do see why the want Taiwan. The dirty Communist Chinese bastards will put these people back in power in Taiwan. The will get all the positions of power and salary and again the Formosans will become slaves of the Chinese bastards.
A little tid bit about Lien, he's been beating his wife for decades.
The book that built the Lien family.
Just when the family assets of Lien Chen-tung and his son Lien Chan became a hot election campaign issue, a dissertation written by academic Lin Yuan-huei.
The 30,000-character paper tells the reader that, during the era of Japanese occupation, both Lien Heng and Lien Chen-tung worked for a pro-Japanese newspaper. It also tells how Lien Heng eulogized the colonizers in poems.
