Social Security proposal rebuffed - Bush plan criticized at meeting
http://www.wvgazette.com/section/News/2005042624/

Edward McKown just had one question: Why? Why privatize Social Security?

To line the pockets of Wall Street brokers, one lady suggested. A first step to get rid of Social Security completely, offered another man.

Whatever the reason, McKown and more than 100 other people, mostly seniors, who gathered for a town hall meeting Tuesday night at the Chesapeake City Hall, did not support President Bush’s proposal to alter Social Security.

The meeting was organized by West Virginians United to Protect Social Security, a coalition of labor and citizen-action groups who are against President Bush’s plan.

Bush has proposed allowing younger workers to divert part of their Social Security contributions into personal investment accounts that could be used for retirement.

Looks like if the Dimson won't allow dissent at the staged-taxpayerfunded-dissent not allowed-lovefests, the public will stage their own meetings!

2. Make Wall Street Brokers Rich
My 26 year old daughter said exactly the same thing. She is in the precise age group that Bush is targeting his "private/personal" accounts.
