House Democrats Cite Medicare in Contribution Pitch

WASHINGTON - House Democrats are asking prospective donors to contribute to help them oppose Republican legislation on Medicare prescription drug coverage.

"The stakes are incredibly high for America's seniors," the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee wrote in an e-mail sent Monday. "But the only certain way to protect their interests — and those of America's children and working families as well — is to restore a Democratic majority in Congress."

The letter asks for contributions of $30 to $1,000 to the DCCC, "to inform the public of the real issues at stake and hold President Bush and GOP leader Tom DeLay accountable."

The DCCC also began running television ads over the weekend against eight of the Republicans who voted for the House plan. ---
