List of Schiavo Donors Will Be Sold by Direct-Marketing Firm
--------------------------------------
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and JOHN SCHWARTZ
--------------------------------------
WASHINGTON, March 28 - The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of donors to their legal expenses, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.

"These compassionate pro-lifers donated toward Bob Schindler's legal battle to keep Terri's estranged husband from removing the feeding tube from Terri," says a description of the list on the Web site of the firm, Response Unlimited, which is asking $150 a month for 6,000 names and $500 a month for 4,000 e-mail addresses of people who responded last month to an e-mail plea from Ms. Schiavo's father. "These individuals are passionate about the way they value human life, adamantly oppose euthanasia and are pro-life in every sense of the word!"

(snip)

Mr. McCullough said he was present when Mr. Schindler agreed to the arrangement in a conversation with Phil Sheldon, the co-founder of a conservative online marketing organization, RightMarch.com, who acted as a broker for Response Unlimited.

(snip)

Pamela Hennessy, an unpaid spokeswoman for the Schindlers, said she was initially appalled when she learned of the list's existence.

"It is possibly the most distasteful thing I have ever seen," Ms. Hennessy said. "Everybody is making a buck off of her."

Just a quick google search reveals that he a fairly major wack job.

Here's one of his rants against Islam:

The truth about the war on terrorism!
by Philip Zodhiates <[email protected]>

President Bush and our nation's leaders are not telling you the whole truth about the war on terrorism.

In fact, they can't.

Because the war we're fighting is a religious war. A war not against Muslims, but rather a war against Islam.

You see, when you examine the Islamic holy book, the Qu'ran, you find Islam is anything but a peaceful religion. Sure many Muslims are dear, wonderful, peaceful people. . .

But Islam is a militaristic and imperialistic religion, whose followers are commanded by the Qu'ran to subjugate all other people without hesitation to shed blood.

If our President told you the truth about Islam, it would cause the weak coalition of Islamic nations he's enlisted to battle terrorism to fall apart. In fact, it could easily turn the entire Islamic world against the United States and the West.

You see, Osama Bin Laden and his followers are mainstream Islam.

http://www.truthtree.com/islam/war-on-terrorism.shtml

Seems he doesn't like Hindus much either:

Christians in the heart of India are under constant persecution, and
your help is needed! Hindus are intent on silencing the truth by
violently coercing conversions. Please go to ChristianPetitions.com and read what is at stake. Here's the address:
http://www.christianpetitions.com/petitions.php?id=263

Believers are openly terrorized, and area officials apparently aren't
interested in justice. Under the threat of additional violence and
destruction, Christians are being ordered to reject their faith and
convert to Hinduism!

That these peaceful Christians refuse to do. Therefore, three church
buildings and 20 Christian homes have been burned so far, forcing
Christians from their villages. Fourteen believers are in prison and
another 84 are being sought by authorities.

The situation is unbearable, and the persecuted Christians are crying
out for help! Answer their call! Sign a petition asking India President Abdul Kalam to stop the coercion! Stand in the gap and make your voice heard at:

12. Why would the Schindlers' authorize this now?
Surely they can see that their daughter will finally be allowed to die soon. They will have no more need of money for legal battles, unless they want to litigate this even after she dies.

"The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.

"These individuals are passionate about the way they value human life, adamantly oppose euthanasia and are pro-life in every sense of the word!"
...
Executives of Response Unlimited declined to comment. Gary McCullough, director of the Christian Communication Network and a spokesman for Ms. Schiavo's parents, confirmed that Mr. Schindler had agreed to let Response Unlimited rent out the list as part of a deal for the firm to send an e-mail solicitation raising money on the family's behalf."

13. Why? They got to get paid!
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 02:32 AM by FredScuttle
Any initial sympathy I had for the parents was tempered by a suspicion and uneasiness with how freely they seemed to jump to exploit of their brain-damaged daughter. Then came the reports of their money problems in the late 80's and their dispute with Michael Schiavo over the malpractice settlement money. They lost me completely when they turned over the PR work to the likes of Randall Terry...this does not surprise me in the least. Ask yourself who has faciliated and, indeed, encouraged the worst exploitation and craven publicity-seeking of this entire episode and you will find the parents. Shame on them.

32. Supposedly, this whole feud started when Schindler's didn't get money
they thought they were entitled to. They were close to Michael Schiavo for a few years after Terri's heart attack ... some of the news-show timelines of the story indicate the Schindlers got pissed when they didn't get some money (malpractice settlement? I'm not sure) they thought they should get from Michael.

So them selling out their supporters should be no surprise to anyone. They're gonna have book and movie-of-the-week deals out the ying-yang ... and we can expect to see them on the holy-roller speakers' circuit.

They'll probably try to patent some sort of catch-phrase (a la Lisa Beamer and "Let's Roll").

They'll be the Andromeda Strain: "We'll never be rid of them!"

34. ".... estranged husband ....."
Liars. Fucking liars.

They'll throw anything in there, just to achieve their own sleazy ends.

Mr. and Mrs. Schiavo were never separated, legally or otherwise, and to use the word 'estranged' is to imply that their marriage was broken, or, at the very least, troubled. There's no evidence whatsoever to indicate that.

Liars. These fucking professional Christers are nothing but slanderers and liars.

Jesus Christ himself would have ordered every one of them summarily executed, and then might have announced that the Khmer Rouge were on to something.

The fever this has created, watching Terri's family and friends on TV, the distortions that she is now trying to talk, and now just one more exploitation is just so distasteful, it's hard to put it in words what I think of all of them. Today it all made me think of the Elian Gonzalez debacle.

May you be in peace, Terri.

They needed money to pursue all this, and in order for the solicitations to go out in the first place, Schindlers had to agree to let the direct mail folks use the list of resulting names in the future. Pretty standard deal. Same thing happens on the left my friends.

There may also be some crossover. So, it's really not that many people, but it's a real violation of privacy. As the other poster pointed out, that seems to be the SOP of the Schindlers. (No wonder Terri got an eating disorder.)

When Terri dies, the fundies will find a new cause and won't "fund" the Schindlers anymore. In fact, maybe they'll focus on the pedophile priests and begin demonizing the Catholic religion again, which will put the Schindlers in their cross-hairs.

44. The math is interesting.
These are confirmed recent donors, so we know the all gave some money. This list may even be just the big givers. So, if we assume somewhere between $100 and $1000 per person, that would mean a 'take' of between $1 million and $10 million for the recipients of the money. No wonder this case has been dragged out for so long - it's a gold mine.

And that doesn't include the small unreported collection plate donations, which probably would come to even more.

46. List of Schiavo Donors Will Be Sold by Direct-Marketing Firm
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/29/politics/29donate.html?ex=1269752400&en=f1312f1b5ae170ad&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland

The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups.

"These individuals are passionate about the way they value human life, adamantly oppose euthanasia and are pro-life in every sense of the word!"
...

Mr. McCullough said he was present when Mr. Schindler agreed to the arrangement in a conversation with Phil Sheldon, the co-founder of a conservative online marketing organization, RightMarch.com, who acted as a broker for Response Unlimited.

"So the Schindlers do know the details," Mr. McCullough said on Monday. How much attention they paid to the matter is hard to assess, he added. "The Schindlers right now know that their daughter is starving to death, and if I ask about anything else, they say, 'I don't want to hear about it.' "
