More Connecticut soldiers could be deployed
More Connecticut soldiers could be deployed
Friday September 26, 2003
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) The Connecticut National Guard is reviewing which troops would be eligible for deployment if the Pentagon calls for more units in Iraq, The Day of New London reported.

The Connecticut National Guard currently has about 1,500 soldiers deployed, said Maj. John Whitford, spokesman for the National Guard. There are about 5,200 enrolled in the state's force.

Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace said this week that the Department of Defense could notify thousands in the National Guard and Army Reserves they are needed if other countries did not support operations in Iraq.

``Our mobilization officer and our staff have been watching this very closely,'' Whitford told the newspaper.

Connecticut's eligible units include the 192nd Engineering Battalion in New London, including its bridge-building unit in Putnam; the 118th Medical Battalion in Newington; and the 242nd Engineering Battalion in Stratford. The 185th Aviation Unit in Windsor Locks, the 143rd Forward Support Battalion in Waterbury and Southington and the 102nd Infantry in New Haven are also eligible. (snip/...)

1. Of course....
Smirk doesn't need his home state. It's a deep shade of Blue.

Let them die.

2. I Would Say It's More A Matter Of "When"
And for how long? Of course, this may be design since it would be in Dimbo's best interest to have as many troops overseas before the 2004 election since he can "fudge" that portion of the vote fairly easily.
