Militia threats force UN to move staff in western Darfur
THE United Nations has withdrawn all international staff from parts of western Darfur to a regional capital, after Arab militias said they would target foreigners in the area.

Jan Pronk, the senior UN envoy in Sudan, said the government had made small steps to disarm the Janjaweed militia in West Darfur state, but more had to be done.

The Janjaweed are accused of a campaign of rape, killing, looting and burning non-Arab villages.

"The Janjaweed militia have said that they will now target all foreigners and all UN humanitarian convoys," Mr Pronk said.
