Both Houses of Congress Get Involved in 'Gannon' Case

NEW YORK Two leaders of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee want the federal prosecutor investigating the Valeria Plame case to subpoena a personal journal of controversial White House reporter James Guckert, following Editor & Publisher's disclosure yesterday that Guckert claims he kept the journal for the past two years.

"It is clear that a primary obstacle to the ... investigation is uncovering a precise chronology of when, and to whom, classified information was leaked," Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), one of those seeking the subpoena, told E&P. "The revelation by Editor & Publisher that Mr. Guckert kept contemporaneous records of his 'reporting' activities could well be a major step forward in developing such a chronology."

In addition, E&P has confirmed an online report that Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) is circulating a letter among his colleagues that asks President Bush to launch an investigation into how Guckert, who writes under the byline “Jeff Gannon,” gained access to White House press briefings over two years despite having no journalism background and using a false name.

Both letters are just the latest in a string of inquiries by congressional leaders, which have included a previous request by Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) for documents related to Guckert's continued White House access.

Yes, even the ones on Pox that turn out to be ambushes for most of them. That's the only way they can keep this thing alive and in the public consciousness, by hammering away at it.

The MSM keeps hoping it will just go away, that they won't be seen acquiescing to turning press conferences into propaganda lectures, with legitimate press ignored, lectures long, and questions few and tame.

I called Boxer and Biden today and demanded that they sign. Boxer's my Senator. It's not as though she could possibly be intimidated now, is it? I reminded her that I'm one of those who sent roses on Valentine's Day, who urged her to stand with Conyers and friends against the Ohio vote fraud, and who gave money to her reelection campaign. THIS is what I rehired her to do.

Furthermore, if you'd heard Joe Biden on the most recent Bill Maher show on HBO (I think it reruns tonight (Wednesday) - if you can catch it, it's worth it - Biden had also seen the light on this, and was questioning all the things that should be questioned. WHY THE HELL HAS HE NOT SIGNED, TOO?

These people need to be pushed. Encouraged. Whatever. Lautenberg should be thanked - he's signed already, Reid, too, because he's evidently thinking of signing, too; and of course, Durbin - a HUGE thank-you should go to him.

It has the snail mail/email/phone/fax info on everybody, AND all of that for ALL of their offices, whether in Washington DC OR in the local AND regional areas. MOST useful and comprehensive.
