Veterans complain of skimpy funding in Bush's budget plan
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05053/461043.stm

Alfred J. Casey, 82, of White Oak, is a news junkie. Every day he reads newspapers, watches TV and devours magazines. And ever since he read about the president's proposed budget earlier this month, he's been stewing.

"I think this administration is cutting money from the veterans, and that will hurt a lot of people in Pittsburgh," said Casey, who served in the Ardennes in France in World War II. "A lot of veterans are in bad shape healthwise. A lot of people in this country forget that besides those who don't come back, many come back needing help for the rest of their lives."

<snip>

But veterans' groups say that is only one-fourth of 1 percent more than the fiscal year 2005 budget and that government experts have said the VA needs a 14 percent increase to keep up with its needs.

Advocacy groups (including the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS) say a realistic budget next year for veterans' health care should be $31.2 billion -- not $28.1 billion, as the president's budget proposes.

And admire the War exploits of the Chimpanzee and his partner Cheney.

They especially like the the combat prowess of R. Cheney and his attack up hill 861.

They also don't like gays, abortion or people who are not "born again" that's why they shit in their own sand box.

3. Veterans' pensions (retirement & disability) are being cut.
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 12:59 AM by TahitiNut
FY2005 projected spending is $37.0 billion, while FY2006 budgeted spending is $36.3 billion. They're projecting even less in FY2007 ($35.4 billion).

The bastards are sending back disabled veterans damned near daily and cutting their benefits. Gotta save those dollars for Halliburton. :puke:

4. Hey, look at the bright side.
At least Kerry didn't win. I mean, he probably wouldn't have cut your benefits but that's not what matters, right? What matters is whether or not Kerry suffered enough to deserve the purple heart he received for his war injury.

6. Oh, boo frickin' hoo......
Cry me a river, you idiots. You were all into your "Veterans for Bush" bumper stickers and waving your little flags from your barstools at the VFW and now the truth comes out and the cognitive dissonance is killing you. Admit it - you were wrong to support this asshole.

Too bad. Senator Kerry would have made sure you had what you needed.

9. Thank you, RR.
I was about to say the same for my husband, a disabled vet who is looking at his prescription price jumping from $7.00 per month to $15.00 per month, for each prescription.

His Presidential sticker choice:

John Kerry
A President we can salute with more than one finger

>The Bush budget would impose a new $250 health care user fee on what it calls well-to-do veterans who use services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and it also would double prescription drug co-payments to $15. But in many cases, those criteria could include veterans with annual incomes of only $26,000.<

$26,000 a year is considered well-to-do? Well to do what??

and ya just gotta love this line from the article:
>The administration has asserted that annual spending for veterans' services has gone up more than 300 percent since 1980, to $65 billion this year, and that in an age of mounting deficits such growth is unsustainable.<

'in an age of mounting deficits such growth is unsustainable.'

bogus wars good.
care for veterans unsustainable.
:grr:

11. I know, I know.....
When I make statements like this I'm fully aware that not ALL veterans voted for the asshole, but let's be honest here. The majority of them did. And that I'll never understand.
