Gov. (Ahnuld) Calls Democrats 'Addicts'
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 03:52 AM by LeftCoast
That steriod popping (former) muscle bunny has some nerve calling Dems 'addicts'!

---------------
SACRAMENTO — In a fiery speech to Republican faithful Friday evening, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ridiculed Democrats as wasteful spending "addicts" who have been taking "sleeping pills," and he characterized California's problems as stemming from "evil."

The speech before about 1,000 people at a convention of the California Republican Party — a traditionally conservative crowd of stalwarts — featured Schwarzenegger's sharpest rhetoric to date as he prepared for a possible special election in November that would shake up state government.

The governor said the Democrat-controlled Legislature has refused to solve serious structural problems with the state budget and its political machinery.

"Now we are going to the source — right there where all the evil is — and we're going to fix this problem once and for all," Schwarzenegger said. "We're going to say this reform is going to happen because now we have a governor who represents the people's interests instead of special interests."

7. Most definitely
Schwarzenegger began his speech with some rhetorical red meat for the conservative crowd, making a joke about the family of his wife, Maria Shriver. He said it was amazing that the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl again, adding: "It's great to see a New England dynasty that is not the Kennedys."

That is a very bad political idea, openly taunting powerful political allies. After all, they gave him some support for election, didn't they?

Just call "it" "evil."

Who can argue with that? Who supports "evil?"

"Evil" must be destroyed at all costs.

By the way, "evil" is "special interests."

"Special interests" need to form the line on the left track that is bound for the special interest camps. Cheers on your Holiday.

5. Nurses are a special interest
According to Arnold us RN's are a special interest that are tired of him because he "kicks are girly butts". We are a special interest because we stand up for the patients quality of care. So I guess we do have a special interest, the patient. Arnold on the other hand "kicks our our girly butts" by supporting corporations that pretend to be in the health care business. They are not a special interest because any governor will do if he can be bought. No governor in special, just any old governor will do if he can be bought.

As far as addicts go Arnold, it takes one to know one.

Why settle for blowing your re-election chances when you can make it impossible for a Republican to ever be elected Governor in CA again? Keep them coming Arnold, you're the best thing that ever happened to the California Democrats. And with your buddies in Congress pushing for an Amendment to allow you to run in a not-so-distant election, don't be surprised when Republicans start jumping ship in your Red-State strongholds as well.

The "evil" is no longer any outside force. It's US! WE are the evil- Dems, union workers, teachers...

snip>
Characterizing his agenda this year as a "great battle" against "evil," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger used a 28-minute speech at the state Republican convention Friday night to rally fellow party members around his plans to fight Democratic interests at the ballot box.
...
"That's why they fixed a little here, a little there. But now we're going to the source. We're going right there where all the evil is, and we're going to fix this problem once and for all."

His real record and his real buddies need to be outed publicly and repeatedly.

And are all his "Dem" movie star friends still supporting him? Where are they now?

A choice of Angelides economic-business experience and knowledge should flatten Gropenator.

69. Angelides flatten Ahnuld? Is that your final answer?
The lamest thing the CA Dems could do is nominate a low-charisma bureaucratic wonk to go toe-to-toe with Der Gropenator. Ahnuld is going to be a very tough opponent; he will get ALL the republican votes, and a substantial share of independents and Dems who vote primarily by image and name recognition. This isn't a long shot like the Presidential election last year; the GOP will fucking FLOOD California with money painting anyone who runs as an "establishment special-interest money grabber", and blame every stupid policy move by Ahnuld on the still-Democratic legislature.

California needs a big name to take on Ahnuld. We're talking Vlade Divac or Harrison Ford big, not Gray Davis big. Intelligence, law degree, and political acumen are optional; those aren't even points of contention. Much as we might wish to avoid it, this battle will be fought on the field of name recognition and empty idealistic rhetoric. Pretending otherwise will cost Democrats the governorship and probably some seats in the legislature.

65. Watch out! Ahnuld just took his next step toward re-election
CA Democrats better get your shit together with a solid message and find some media coverage to get it out there. The little space in the article given to the Dems' response used the phrase "partisan rhetoric". I tell you what: speachifying with "evil addicts" will beat "partisan rhetoric" 999 times out of 1000.

Ahnuld represents a very real threat to the Democratic party in California, and so far I haven't seen any signs that it's being taken seriously. Don't assume he's stupid, don't assume he's a pushover, and NEVER assume he won't be very difficult to run against.

He's energetic, popular, and an expert self-promoter. And that's just the beginning.

Schwarzennegger has
* incumbency
* near-100% name recognition among voters
* glowing media coverage
* an unmistakable accent which he exaggerates for branding purposes
* unlimited financial resources
* unmitigated gall
* lots of folk metaphors ready to go
* infinite nameless "special interests" to associate with Democratic bureaucrats

About a month ago, I predicted he'd win big against the generic Democratic challenger by at least 10 points, IIRC. I'm upping it to a 15-point spread if he keeps going like this. And he's going to have some coat-tails this time around; the GOP is counting on him to lead the next republican wave. Democrats, figure it out or pay the price.

70. The republicans are counting on it.
Ahnuld would be a viable national candidate, if that pesky part of the constitution regarding presidents being American-born were amended. Even as a lesser official, he's still exceedingly useful as a campaigner and spokesman.

Count on him to lead the next wave.

What else can you say about addicts like O'Reilly & Rush, that hasn't been said already? Fine examples of Republican "Family Values & Morality"??? Guess so. 73. Here's some more quotes from Arnold - the politics marketing scam
To Arnold, it's all just a fancy schmancy marketing scheme.

~snip~
In an age when the blurring of entertainment and reality is taken for granted, Mr. Schwarzenegger has gone one step farther, blending Hollywood marketing into his governorship in a way that makes them almost indistinguishable.

"You have to do more than just go and have a little press conference," Mr. Schwarzenegger said in a recent telephone interview. "So the spectacle, showmanship, selling, promoting, marketing, publicizing, all of those things are extremely important."

He started doing this years ago in Hollywood, he recalled. "We did all of this to make the people pay attention, the same as in this thing," he added, in a reference to politics. "You also have to think about how you can sell the policy, how can we get it so that everyone in California at home starts paying attention to it?"

Peter Sealey, a former marketing president at Columbia Pictures who is now an adjunct professor of business at the University of California, Berkeley, said, "He is marketing the governorship just like he did 'Terminator 3.' "

77. Schwarzenegger met with Enron in 2001, when they were still...
...putting the screws on California consumers. Here's a quotation from George Lakoff's "Don't Think of an Elephant":

"...energy deregulation was brought in by Republican governor Pete Wilson...there was no real energy crisis. It resulted from thievery by Enron and other heavy Bush contributors...Schwarzenegger had had a meeting with Ken Lay and other energy executives in spring 2001 when Lay was promoting deregulation, but denies any complicity in the theft. Schwarzenegger is now promoting energy deregulation again."

People's interests? When he's slamming the door to a college education shut for thousands of Californians? When he tries to paint nurses, professionals who serve in a vitally important role in our society and are too few to do the work needed, as "special interests," he unmasks himself for the bullying, mendacious washed-up performer he is.

The only good thing I can say about Schwarzenegger is that he has refreshed my memory of German profanity and even inspired me to coin a few more terms.

Herr Groper refers to "they", presumably Democrats in the CA state legislature, as addicts. The LAT is (unknowingly?) spreading a different meme that (all) Democrats=addicts, as are most of the posters on this thread. I suppose that's what the speechwriters had in mind.

So, for all of you burrying your heads in the sand about it, it all comes back to the voting rights. I seem to remember there was a Dem rep fighting for paper ballots - and the party itself served his head on a platter to Adolph.
Adolph is many things - but not stupid when it comes to Adolph's interest. if he thought dems can unseat him, he would have kept his mouth shut.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but I live in Ga and didn't hear anything about another special election in Ca. What is he wanting a special election for? It sounds like he wants to have re-elections for the legislators, but....can you do that before their term is up? Don't you need some kind of recall petitions or something?

Legislatively. Most are done this way.

Initiatively. That's the signature-gathering type.

We have a special election because Herr Gropinator says we do.

Who's going to draw the boundaries? My guess is Karl Rove.
