Turkey slams US for failing to rein in Iraqi Kurds
ANKARA: Turkey slammed the US yesterday for failing to rein in Kurdish moves in Iraq at the risk of fanning regional turmoil, despite assurances from Washington that Ankara’s concerns over its conflict-torn neighbour are being addressed.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the United States of ignoring “certain developments (in Iraq) which our nation has deeply regretted,” almost simultanously as a senior Pentagon official visiting Ankara pledged that Turkish-US ties remained strong despite their differences over Iraq.

“Forces who say they came to the region to bring democracy have preferred to remain indifferent to anti-democratic ambitions,” Erdogan said in a speech in parliament, without mentioning names.

His remarks were the latest in a series of warnings by Ankara over what it sees as attempts by Iraqi Kurds to take control of the ethnically volatile city of Kirkuk at the expense of local Arabs and Turkish-speaking Turkmens.

1. Here we go....
As the flames rise higher.....the dangers increase.

The US, by blasting its way in to Iraq, has set in motion developments which are hard to reverse. There are going to be consequences which the US never intended, unless their underlying motivation was to cause upheaval in the entire Middle East.

Rather than push "Democracy" in the area, the US is risking inflaming fragile relationships between the Kurds, the Turkmen, and the different tribes in Iraq.

The Turks have had an extremely difficult time keeping a lid on their own Kurdish population. The Iraqi Kurds are now interested in their own autonomy, living in oil-rich Tikrit. They risk creating an upheaval with the Kurds further north, who want to form an alliance.

4. cause upheaval in the entire Middle East.
georgie's foreign policy experience, should we expect anything less? I mean, just look at the disdain he held for the "you break it you own it" warning from mr. powell.

3. What does this mean?
More incompetence on behalf of Bush?

More saber rattling on behalf of puppet allies?

All of the above?
