Wal-Mart: Attention, critics
Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 08:19 AM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Retailer places ads nationwide in effort to defend practices

By Janet Forgrieve, Rocky Mountain News
January 14, 2005

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. went national to answer its critics Thursday, placing full-page ads in more than 100 U.S. newspapers.

The ad, which ran in both the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post, takes the form of an open letter from company President and Chief Executive Lee Scott.

Wal-Mart believes it has taken an unfair drubbing from critics about its employment and corporate policies. Issues include allegations that the company doesn't pay most of its 1.2 million U.S. workers a living wage or provide decent health care coverage.

"As one of the world's most visible companies, Wal-Mart expects attention and criticism," the ad says. "When the criticism is warranted, we use it as a tool to improve the way we operate. But when special-interest groups and critics spread misinformation about Wal-Mart, the public deserves to hear the truth."

Just because you say you don't suck, doesn't make it so. MKJ

on edit (Mods, I know there was story about the plan for Wal-mart ads, this is a description of the actual ad plus a local slant. I hope that's OK) MKJ

1. WTF?
Here is an absolute bullshit quote from Mal-Wart rep:

"When we were second fiddle to Kmart, I can't remember any of this criticism. We're the same culture with the same business practice; we just have more stores now than we did then and more employees. The core of the company has not changed, but now because we're No. 1, all this criticism has surfaced."

LIAR!
