18 Iraqis Found Dead in Field Near Mosul
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050106/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_execution&e=3&ncid=

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The bodies of 18 young Iraqis executed after seeking work at a U.S. base have been found in a field near the volatile city of Mosul, police said Thursday.

Police in Baghdad said the insurgents shot the men, aged between 14 and 20, on Dec. 8 after stopping their two mini-buses about 30 miles west of Mosul as they traveled from Baghdad.

Their hands were tied behind their back and each of them was shot in the head. All of them were Shiite Muslims from Baghdad's northern neighborhood of Kadhimiya who were hired by an Iraqi contractor to work at a U.S. base in Mosul.

Their corpses were discovered on Wednesday and were taken to the Kadhimiya hospital in Baghdad, police said. Police in Mosul confirmed the killings, but could not provide more details.

1. The adjective has changed from "restive" to "volatile"
regarding Mosul. Is that a code we are supposed to understand? Just wondering.

I think the writers are just bored with the same old adjectives. I can't blame them, it is coming up on TWO Years of this same shit.

3. Governor in Mosul is denying there are Bodies!
~snip~

An Iraqi governor has denied news reports that the bodies of 18 Iraqi workers were found in the northern city of Mosul.

"We have not heard about such an incident in Mosul city," Nainawa governor Duraid Kashmula told Aljazeera on Thursday. Mosul is the capital of Nainawa governorate.

...Yeah buddy, deny this....

5. Shockingly, 1300 Iraq police have been killed just in past 4 months alone
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 09:09 AM by wishlist
The same basic article in expanded version is on MSNBC this morning here, with additional paragraphs describing the depth of this bad situation:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6727646/

According to this article the Iraq Interior Ministry has given the figure of 1300 police killed in the last four months of 2004, so that figure does not even include this week's fatalities.
