North Korea Issues Wartime Guidelines
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea has ordered its citizens to be ready for a protracted war against the United States, issuing guidelines on evacuating to underground bunkers with weapons, food and portraits of leader Kim Jong Il.

The 33-page ``Detailed Wartime Guidelines,'' published in South Korea's Kyunghyang newspaper on Wednesday and verified by Seoul, was issued April 7, 2004, at a time when the communist regime was claiming it was Washington's next target following the Iraq war.

---cut---

The manual urged the military to build restaurants, wells, restrooms and air purifiers in underground bunkers, which government offices and military units will move into if war breaks out.

When North Koreans evacuate to underground facilities, they should make sure that they take the portraits, plaster busts and bronze statues of Kim and his parents so that they can ``protect'' them in a special room, the guidelines say.

1. underground bunkers
After the North Koreans caught up our two minesweepers with their shore batteries the Navy shelled them with sixteen inch projectiles, they bombed them from air craft. The very earth was burning. We went back in to sweep some more. And then.

The Koreans ran their big guns out of the bunkers and shelled us some more.

Those bunkers are effective.

6. I cannot imagine
how they are going to get 'An earth penetrator' to penetrate. In my experience bombs dropped from aircraft go into the earth and follow the path of least resistance, for instance turning and penetrating parallel to the surface, some times even returning to the surface.

9. Well, first, they explode underground.
My understanding is that the are essentially rockets aimed straight down with a very heavy penetrator nose-cone.

Second they are shaped nuclear charges that can apply force in specific directions.

11. Even the best earth-penetrators can't reach these bunkers
Most penetrators can't go down past 50 meters, while these bunkers can be hundreds of meters down. The vast majority of energy released by a nuke would be directed up and outward, blowing radioactive dust into the atmosphere and surrounding countryside.

I'm sure Japan will be thrilled to have that rain down on them.
