film maker leni riefenstahl dies..
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 11:05 AM by rchsod
leni died today at the age of 101. best known for her films "triumph of will" and "olympia".her documentaries pioneered the tech of tracking rails, crane shots, and multi cameras working at the same time. thru out her life she was always dogged by the charge that she was a nazi supporter, which she rejected as untrue. her work will stand as some of the greatest films ever made even though the politics over shadow them.

3. BFD...
I'm as indifferent to her passing as she was towards her part in promoting the Third Reich.

:nopity:

4. Be careful what dogs you lie down with.
Or spend a lifetime explaining where those fleas came from.

She shoulda known better. Reminds me of Colin Powell. In theyears to come, how will he explain his colusion with the BFEE, and the complete sale of his soul for expected political gain?

7. not even close, I'm afraid
Leni used an incredible gift for incredible evil. I resist any comparison between this administration and the late un-lamented Third Reich, it cheapens the evil of Hitler and his compatriots, and weakens any arguements against shrub and co.

that said, I hope for the sake of your soul that your maker is kind to you Leni, but somehow I don't think that'll happen.

9. very controversial figure
Her relationship with the nazis was much more complex than might be imagined.
She also made a number of documentaries in Africa, recording tribal customs and safari life.
Her lifes work is much more than 'Triumph of the Will'.

10. It was sad to see such talent used for such a cause
this is what happens when art gets in bed with money and power.

Still I admire her abilities as a film maker and photographer, but I cannot put what she did in support of Hitler out of my mind. If you haven't, look for her photographs of the Nuba. Very good work. http://www.faheykleingallery.com/featured_artists/riefenstahl/riefenstahl_africa_28.htm

11. Wow, it's like she was waiting for the screening of "DC: 9/11"
before she faced her Maker.

Perhaps she just wantedf to say, "See? Look at the Amerikans! I'm no worse than Leni Chetwynd!"

One wodners if Chetwynd will be shackled next to Reifenstahl in the 11th Circle of Hell (CorpAdverticus)

His film, too was a "Triumph of the Will"

14. You do Riefenstahl a disservice, Paine.
Whatever else you may say about it, Triumph of the Will is one hell of a piece of filmwork. DC:9/11 on the other hand was barely watchable. No contest.

Now apologize and go sit in the corner.

she was a tough woman, climbing all those peaks in Austria in her bare feet. She gave the biographer film makers a hard time too. Someone you wouldn't want to argue with.

17. I won't mourn her
After all, her work made Hitler's job a little bit easier. I'ts like O'Reilly or Hannity with talent.
