Colorado GOP chair says U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis plans to retire
Colorado GOP chair says U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis plans to retire
Sunday September 07, 2003

DENVER (AP) U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis, a Republican who has represented a sprawling area across western and southern Colorado for 11 years, will not seek a seventh term, the head of the state Republican Party said Sunday.

``It's personal reasons,'' party chairman Ted Halaby said. Halaby said McInnis, who represents the 3rd Congressional District, told him of the decision on Saturday.

McInnis' spokesman, Blair Jones, declined to comment.

The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction reported Sunday that McInnis sent an e-mail to friends and family telling them he wants to move on to new things and will not seek re-election. (snip/...)

7. Good riddance.
He's a walking ethics violation.

Now we Coloradans have to find a strong Dem challenger to take over the soon-to-be-former Republican district and make it a strong Dem district.

17. The Denver Post doesn't agree
Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 08:04 PM by kainah
They pronounced him a "moderate" and said he is invaluable in bringing together the Colorado delegation. Sorry I misplaced the link. I try not to keep garbage on my computer for too long. Scott McInnis, a moderate????

Edited to add.... The Post implied that he felt dissed because he didn't get a chairmanship that he was in line for. Apparently he had not toed the DeLay line 100% so that got him passed over for the committee position.

15. Glad to see him go...
...for whatever "personal reasons" someone had on him. He always ruined the conversations for me:

"You're from Colorado?"
"Yeah! It's great!"
"Hey, don't you have that McInnis guy?"
"...."

:eyes:

16. A fruitcake departs...
now we must work on his replacement.

Before the re-redistricting, Gore only lost the district 42.2%-50.2%. So it's probably winnable. I'll have more when I get home.

19. Yes it is totally winnable
Dems strongly believes that they will have a strong challenger for McInnis' 3rd, and with the redistricting plan under challenge, it's a guaranteed victory for the Dems.

And the 7th will go to the Dems, so will the 6th after Tancredo is forcibly removed from his district.

26. There Have Been Stories Circulating About "McPinhead" For Years
Stories involving domestic violence back when he was a cop. And for some reason, all the court records and personnel files cannot be located.

If he does decide to run for higher office, I may be tempted to contact "60 Minutes", "Dateline", or "20/20".........

I heard about all of this on Colorado Public Radio yesterday. I was so amazed and relieved that he was going to retire...and then they said he's doing so because he wants to run for governor!

28. I don't think McFruitcake can win a statewide election
he's too far too the right. Even Owens had to keep his more neocon tendencies behind the scenes to get elected. McGinnis has too much history.
