8. What does that mean?
What do you mean by a "constitutional lawyer"? I am not familiar with the term

27. I'm sorry, but I have to ask again
What does it mean to "specialize in the Constitution"?

I'm not being facetious or hostile. In fact, I'm grateful that you answered when others just ignored the question, but I just don't see how Biden has "specialized" in Constitutional law. Is this like Sen Byrd's "specialization" as a Constitutional authority of some kind?

I suspect this whole "constitutional something" issue is just another way of saying "They like to talk about the Constitution" and not that they are considered authorities on the subject. That's why one poster described a "constitutional lawyer" as a lawyer who teaches about the Constitution. Lots of creepy people fit that description like Bork, Dershowitz

It sounds like some people are trying to make their candidate into something they are not.

35. Many of them teach in law schools. It is an important area of law. I really don't know why you seem
to have a problem with that.

Now as to Biden, he has to be careful with constitutional prerequisites when it comes to the government making laws. That seems reasonable. So he must be proficient in Con Law. Makes sense. Otherwise an unconstitutional law could be passed by Congress only to have the courts overturn it...it's a safeguard really. I think it is a good thing.

38. I think you're the one with a "problem"
All I did was ask questions in a civil manner. Is there something wrong with asking what someone meant? If so, then what's the problem? If not, then what's YOUR problem?

And as far as your 2nd paragraph goes, that's true of every Senator. Besides, the claim wasn't "Biden knows the Constitution really, really well". It was something about someone being a "Constitutional lawyer", a term I have not heard before. I was wondering what the term means to you? Or was it wrong for me to ask?

41. Well, a constitutional lawyer is a lawyer who for whatever reason is specializing in
that area of the law. Evidently, Biden has done this. That's all...

42. Doesn't that also apply to people like Bork and Dershowitz
both of whom think it's constituional to torture "terrorists"?

And why no comment about my "problem"? Do you now realize my question was sincere but you're too proud to acknowledge that you were wrong to make that mischaracterization?

45. Well, I am sorry if I miscconstrued your point. But on the issue you raise, yes,
it is obvious that we have differing points of view on what is/is not constitutional. That's why we have the federal court system, to resolve those issues. With our democratic form of government, these differing views get hashed out by constitutional experts who study the history of the Constitution and come to conclusions based on a number of factors. Citizens like you and me then look at the differing views and side with those we feel is right, also based on a number of factors.

29. Civil Rights lawyers aren't trial lawyers? They don't try cases?
Trial lawyers don't take civil rights cases? Trial lawyers don't sue corporations and corporate lawyers don't end up in court?

Bah. Law degrees and licenses aren't given out in Cracker Jacks boxes and I get damn sick of folks taking the smarmiest people in a given field and saying they represent the entire profession.

Some assholes did that with car dealers earlier here and it pissed me off. My trial lawyer husband's father was a car dealer - both are good men who helped their neighbors and and are charitable individuals. But the words 'lawyer' and 'car dealer' are used in derogatory manners all the time so anyone who is a member of those professions must be pieces of shit.

desire to help people. Sure, there are a greedy few, but the majority are caring talented people who help folks in need.

I can't believe some of the bigotry and prejudice I've seen on a supposedly progressive website.

Wait! Scratch that. I live in supposedly liberal NYC, and a day doesn't go by that I don't see it in the streets.

I'm beginning to believe that liberalism is dead
