9. i wouldn't go that far.
i'm pissed that the idiotic cuts are being extended, but to whatever extent they make sense, they make vastly more sense now than they did when shrub first campaigned on them or signed them into law.

the logic at the time was that we had a big surplus as far as the eye could see and that we could easily afford a tax cut. remember shrub going around layout out three dollar bills, saying we've got enough surplus to use one dollar to pay down the debt, one dollar for "important project" (supposedly infrastructure), and one dollar to return to the people. after all, it's your money.

so the idea was to return one-third of the available surplus in the form of tax cuts, yet of course he not only vaporized the surplus but blasted through record deficits.

in any event, times were good and there was no need for a tax cut. THAT was when we could afford taxes to pay down the debt.


now, at least we're in a miserable economic time and there's SOME logic to tax cuts, though it'd prefer something vastly more progressive than what's on the table.
