n 1967, Nichols had been contemplating leaving the then-unpopular TV series to return to the theatre, but King persuaded her to stay on. As she recalls in the video above, King said, "Your character is the first non-stereotypical role on television ... people see for the first time as we should be seen, as equals ... Star Trek has changed the face of television."
