Because at most people are vaguely tired of our being in Afghanistan after this long, and Iraq isn't producing casualties anymore so nobody cares. (This is opposed to fascism, in which the people are constantly and loudly reminded of military campaigns.)

If that starts, I guarantee there will be protests. Including by the same teabaggers that are unknowingly asking for it right now.

the governmental mandate to purchase a specific product from for-profit corporations.

Because, as hard as this is to believe, outside of DU very few people are actively offended by the existence of for-profit entities or the fact that they and the government can partner to achieve certain ends.

(And, incidentally, that's false; quite a few insurance policies are offered by not-for-profit corporations -- mine is, for instance.)
