I think what drives a lot of this is fear.

And the silly idea that if we can find some way of distancing ourselves from suffering, we will be safe.

And coming up with ludicrous, twisted reasons to explain why terrifying, unpredictable, unfair things happen to others.

Watching and knowing what is happening to the people in Japan is agonizing.

I'm sorry.
There is no excuse for this.
