Nearly every developed country is making similar draconian cuts. Was some deal made? Is there some unstated purpose -- like maybe coping with peak oil?

Or have we just bought too much Chinese junk? Have we simply exported too many jobs? Are we living so beyond our means that we have to starve ourselves and our children or is there something else going on here?

Greed, obviously is a motivation. But those who run our corporations can surely remember of the man who killed the golden goose. And it is just impossible that every European country and our country are all needing to make such drastic cuts in government spending.
