What you don't see in that static video is the people in the audience doing it too.
What you see there is the isolated action of one person out of context, a lot like the Dean Scream. Everyone in the room was screaming but the video and audio only picked up Dean's scream. And of course it looked and sounded "fucking stupid" and made Dean look like an "idiot".
