There has been much in the news lately about how new EPA regulations will force Texas power plants to close. Power company operators and states have sued to stop implementation of the new regulations. In that litigation, the EPA has recently disclosed that it will hire 230,000 new employees at an estimated cost of $21 billion annually, in order to process all the extra paperwork required by the new regulations.

That cost does not include the economic impact of the regulations themselves -- such as the higher utility costs we in Texas will end up paying.

In short, Obama and the “greenniks” are about to cost us another $21 billion in taxes every year as well as higher electric bills

This is irrational even in good times, but especially so at a time when the economy is in the tank, unemployment is high, and we are laying off school teachers.

Bob Rader,
