Japan is one of the most active earthquake zones on the planet. The word tsunami is a Japanese word, have been happening as long as quakes out to sea have been happening. Stormy season, happens every year.

The only real difference I can see it that some of us are watching and paying attention more closely, a the stakes have risen somewhat.
