It has nothing to do with "proof" of bin Laden's death (which would be about the stupidest lie anyone could ever think to tell). Americans are a ridiculous admixture of bellicosity and squeamishness. We're gonna take out the bad guys, bring 'em in dead or alive (hyuk, hyuk, did you see what I did there), and teach 'em a lesson. But when we send the killers out to do their thing, suddenly we want to think of the children (oh, won't someone please think of the children), and pretend that that's "not who we are." Really?

I feel like I should be sitting on a leaf and smoking a hookah: Then, who are you?

"We are" the nation that launched two wars without declaring them.

"We are" the nation currently occupying two countries which we invaded under false pretenses.

"We are" the nation that perpetrated Kama Aido, Abu Ghraib, black prison sites, and other crimes against humanity, under not one but two successive governments.

"We are" the nation that shoots unarmed civilians when it suits us, and hands out medals to the commanders.

"We are" the nation that threatens, tortures and rapes the children of detainees to get them to talk. Then we torture the people who we think revealed that information.

But we don't publish death photos. Nosireebob. There are some things we won't do, because that's "not who we are." God bless America, fuck yeah!
