The death of Bin Laden doesn't erase all the things that Obama has done, or has failed to do, as President.

He's still the same guy as he was last week. I'm still unhappy we don't have a public option, I'm still unhappy that the he extended the Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, I'm still unhappy that we bailed out the banks, and not the homeowners, I'm still unhappy that unemployment is so fucking high, yada... yada... yada...

You get it me?

Good. Now fuck all that.

Can we have a week, AT LEAST, where Dems can put differences behind us and celebrate this outstanding victory? Obama has done that which Bush could not do. Obama has accomplished that which McCain said he could not accomplish. Obama has closed an open wound on the heart of America.

He has become a truly historic, transformational figure, as if he wasn't one already...

A week from now (maybe a month...:) ), I'll be happy to pick up the banner and ask why the President isn't the social progressive some of us hoped and believed he would become. Many will debate that I am wrong, and that Obama is soundly in the Progressive camp. I encourage those debates, but not today.

Today, we celebrate.

And to those who wonder why we celebrate death, I say you've completely missed the damned point. We don't celebrate a life lost, we celebrate lives saved, and death and destruction averted.

You may think you have the moral high-ground, but don't tell me. Don't tell DU. Sit down and tell the surviving family members of those that died on 9/11. They are real people, not abstract characters that appear on TV. Some of those family members are here on DU. Tell them why it's a sad day in America...

Or don't. Surely, in the great reservoir of love in your hearts, you can allow those families a moment to take stock of their own emotions, and let them come to their own peace. Maybe some will agree that death doesn't forgive death. Maybe not, but this is not the time to preach. This is not the time to nag. You will alienate those who might benefit from your message, simply because you tried to hard, and flaunted your supposed claim to a higher ethic.

Relax. Show some compassion for the greater masses. There will be time for your issues in the future, but not today...

Today, we celebrate.
