Obama's approval rating in Texas… (I'm not making this up)…. 51%!!!!

A new poll which was published in the Houston Chronicle has Obama's approval rating in the state of Texas at 51%. Texans Governor Rick Perry's approval rating is 54%. (Yes that is within the margin of error.)

THE STORY- I GIVE UP! I can no longer figure this out! Another poll showing shocking strength for the incumbent President. (And in a must win red state for the GOP no less). The country's "right track/wrong track numbers are terrible. The economy is in shambles. Unemployment is over 9%. We are involved in 3 wars of which none of them are popular. And Obama gets unfairly hammered in the press day and night. Everything seems to be lined up against this President.,EXCEPT FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. The bottom line, at least according to this poll, if Texas governor Rick Perry and Barrack Obama were in a Presidential race…. RIGHT NOW TEXAS WOULD BE A TOSS-UP STATE.

THE GOOD- "A poll by the nonpartisan Lyceum group finds that the majority of likely voters in Texas approve of the job Republican Rick Perry is doing as governor and Democrat Barack Obama is doing as president.
The poll shows Perry — a potential presidential candidate — with a 54 percent job approval rating among those surveyed.
Obama's approval rating stands at 51 percent. That's up from 47 percent in 2010."

THE BAD-I have never heard of this pollster (The Lyceum Group). I don't know how reliable they are, what their track record is, or if they are unbiased or lean to the left or right. Either way at least locally in Texas, the poll was credible enough to be printed in the largest city newspapers in Houston and San Antonio. Still,l I like to see cross-tabs before I get overly excited or deflated by any poll. This Poll was also conducted right around the time Bin Laden was captured, so Obama's numbers could be artificially inflated a little bit. ( I don't know why it only came out today if it was completed in May.)

THE INTERESTING- The bottom line is the President is very strong. Texas is suppose to be a noncompetitive state for Obama. But even against the states popular governor, he shows stunning strength. Although the poll was taken around the time Bin Laden was captured and killed, it should be noted that Obama's "ratings bump" really was never that much. It was worth no more than 2-3 points in most polls. So even an approval rating of 48-49% in Texas is very good. Remember we are talking about Texas here. This is the second poll in 3 days (South Carolina being the other) where the President currently is very competitive in what is suppose to be solid GOP territory.

Right now Obama truly is the teflon president. You can't hit him with anything. In that regard, at least RIGHT NOW, he is very much like Ronald Reagan, who to my frustration coming from the left, had very similar personal qualities with the American people.

I wonder when the news media is going to report this?
