Let's face it. Sarah Palin might be delusional enough to run, but there is one backdrop both to her run for the nomination and any possibility that she might go up against Obama that she cannot escape.
She quit the governorship halfway through her term.
Even semi-conscious Republicans know that would be a fatal Achilles Heel, that would transcend ideology, personal "charisma" or any other factor they might see as an asset.
She quit the governorship halfway through her term.
That cannot be overcome. Too many people -- even if they like her -- would have as that background question: "What if she can't take the heat in Washington after a year or two? Does that mean she'll just walk away from that too?"
So she should be dismissed for what she is. A publicity and money hungry dope who lucked into a position of unearned national celebrity. Maybe she is qualified to be a tea-bag spokeswoman (although if I were a teabagger, I'd find her somewhat embarrassing) or a pseudo-pundit or a niche talk-show host.
But she is not a serious candidate.
