... they are in a weakened state -- such as getting them to sign wills or agree to other things they normally would not agree to. As such, it's a good idea to limit visitors under certain circumstances.
It's only when implemented by bigots that it becomes toxic. Any person should be able to designate who they want to be by their side -- and a durable power of attorney for medical purposes should certainly be a major clue that person A wants person B to be with them.
